That tells me that they were being very animated and most likely very LOUD. That would cause the dog the to think that its' humans were being threatened (which they would have been). STUPID *cough* humans . . . they think they can do whatever they want when taken to task for their stupidity kill something.

Luvonda, I know you love your fur babies and you know that I love mine, however, we dispatched a Pit Bull that was sicked on us while looking for a Heroin dealer. The Dog bit the guy working with me on the thigh and did not let go. This issue was cured and the dog was thrown back into the same yard at the feet of the woman who sicked him on us. Incidentally, we were walking down the middle of the street, in a neighborhood that had all of the street lights shot out, and she was not the subject of the investigation and we were very quiet.

Luvonda, I just saw where a police officer shot and killed a service dog. Unfortunately for the police officer his actions were caught on his dashcam. He's no longer in police work.... Thank goodness!!

Bill, My furfaces and your furfaces would not attack anyone unless they felt that we were being threatened. Even then, we would most likely still have a bit of control over them and be able to call them off (unless of course said event was warranted).

Scot, I fully understand the situation that you spoke of. You should have dispatched the POS immediately after the poor dog. Doubtful she would have ever be missed. As for the guys involved in this shooting it states that they were in the yard (most likely acting like fools) wanting entrance (we all know how that is often done by some).

There have been a LOT of LE shootings of dogs that are being looked at and costing the unsavories their Badges (as it should). Recently a County Deputy (MO) lost her Badge due to shooting a dog in its' cage . . . she said that she was afraid that it was going to come out and attack her. It was a Chi . . . bitch shot it 8 times.
People really need to take a class on reading the dogs . . . would save a lot of dogs and prevent a lot of bites.

Anytime that a dog is "sicced" on someone . .. once the dog has been taken care of . . . the POS needs to take their medicine. Shyt like that is never missed for long.

Out here in CA, it is not uncommon for LE to shoot a dog when they are chasing a suspect or trying to make an arrest in a dwelling. Some are just plain scared of any large dog and terrified of Pits.

They will even shoot Pits if they find them running loose in the city.

When we found Pepper running loose by our office, I was a little scared myself. Up until this point we only owned lap dogs, Pomeranians.

But Pepper was calm and actually more scared of me than I was of her. After about 20 minutes she let me get close, she laid down and rolled on her back and wanted a belly rub.

Well that was it. She came with me off leash to our office.

She is still learning but will come when called, sit, lay down and stop barking.

However, I know that if anyone was to try and harm us or our other dogs, she will protect us. She is part of our "pack" now.

BTW, she thinks she is a lap dog also.

I am a dog lover, but we as owners have to take responsibility for our dogs, i.e. kept them on a leash, clean out after them etc… Now with that said if you put your dog on me I will shoot it to protect myself or my team. In this country dogs is considered a domesticated animals and members of our families, however it still has a wild side. I will not address the bail agent’s action because I was not there or know their fear factor.

But from what I have experienced a dog’s bad behavior is directly related to the owners inappropriate behavior. Also to address Scott M’s posting I concur with your actions, as you Pit Bulls are outlawed in Prince Georges County. That is way SPCA/Humane Society sends those dogs to Montgomery County or puts them down, ones needs to do is look at the dogs in need of adoption and you will find that ninety percent of them are pit bulls or pit bull mix.

I concur . . . however, there are indeed instances where an Innocent is killed most often due to ignorance and fear. . . . I also stand on the . . . If a dog is sicced on anyone, the Monster doing the siccing needs to be putdown as well.

Sadly, there are way too many in the pounds, most are claimed to be pits or pitmixes and have not a drop of any pit type dog running thru veins, but they "have that look"

Had to literally laugh out loud at our newest ACO . . . he called for backup due to an aggressive PIT that had run into a woman's house when she opened the front door. Said it was snapping and growling at him. When the Police got there (my son being one of them on scene) they (my son) took a small chowmix out of the house. Seems that the dog was terrified . . . someone had slashed it throat and it was trying desperately to hide. They have talked to those in power to get the guy some education on breed identification. The guy we had prior, took the time to do just that. We have only had one Pit type Dog shot by the Police and that was the act that caused things to start changing. He shot and killed a dog in a fenced yard where he was going because it was barking.

I have an 7 year old that was one of a litter of 11.
She is the only one that survived passed a year. Tied to trees, starved to death and some Monsters even fought them. People breed dogs because they are greedy and think only of the dollars being put in their pockets. They have no compassion for the life that they caused to be brought to this earth.
Yes, I love my dogs . . . I love animals. Feeding a damned OLD possum on my front porch cuz there is no natural food for it to get to. No Guys, I have not brought it into the house . . . it runs when I open the dooor

It's obvious that emotions and feelings towards animals run high here and being an animal lover myself I can respect that. However, none of us was present with them to know the exact situation and how things went down. Dirtbags use animals for all of the wrong reasons all of the time because they believe they are expendable and that is wrong. Now, that being said I would have at least opted for a 3-point escalation procedure, 1st Pepper Spray 2nd: Taser 3rd: Lethal Force.. I would believe if the animal was truly vicious then this could be considered justified. They are a very strong and powerful dog and sometimes very unpredictable that is why a lot of town's and city have either banned or restricted them. Take a look at this Ohio Court Case: Toledo v. Tellings . I can say that I would not want a pit gribbed onto my leg and twisting. I had a friend in Canada that had a rotti and she was his baby and a very nice and well trained animal and big. Well that was nothing he said compared to his neighbor who was in the RCMP who had a service dog for his K-9 Unit. My friend told me this dog was a Rotti and the RCMP sent them to the Quantico for Dog training. I met with him and OMG!!!..yes it looked like a Rotti..but that was it...This dog was 320lbs it's neck was bigger than both of my legs...I really wanted to pee my pants...but the training that dog had was amazing,however it is not a dog I would relish getting a hold of me..Sorry for rant..
