To cover my butt, I have decided to implement a Prisoner Release Form when I release a fugitive to the bail bondsman that utilizes me. Too many times in the past, I have encountered scrupulous bondsmen who try to get out of paying me and I never had anything other than turning the prisoner over to them and their promise to pay.

Does anyone utilize this type of form?

I don't surrender prisoners to bondsman, only the jail.

Ditto. Jail surrenders only. And I always get a copy of the intake form.

I seldom take them to jail....Usually turn them over to the client or his or her rep that I know will pay me....Got burned once or twice. Once your reputation is out there, the clients know not to burn that bridge cause they'll need you again and again....One that burned me is still paying way more in forfeitures than he otherwise would have to.

Just my take on the situation.

I never hand over a skip without getting paid first. If the bondsman tries to weasel me. I simply let them go. Got burned a few times. Learned my lesson.

I deal with mostly out of state clients. If they meet me to take custody it's usually cod. If I surrender to the jail or law enforcement I have a form ask them to sign. Sometimes they prefer to time stamp it or give me a copy of the bood king sheet. I deal with many jurisdictions and they're all different. Sometimes you just have to take what you can get.

On our company surrender forms there is a place for the Jailer, Deputy or City Police to sign that control of the FTA was turned over to them. We surrender to the jail most of the time as we stay in our own back yard(Indiana) It's been many years since we have been burned. Since I went into collections I have found ways to collect on every account. The saying you can't get blood from a turnip is in days gone by, I will get the turnip  .
