Best .45 ?

I bought a Kimber .45 this past March, paying alot for it, and had nothing but trouble with it. I changed ammo, used Wilson mags, etc. all to no avail. The thing kept jamming every other round. I finally got rid of it. But I like the .45 round..so I am asking my fellow BEA's for thier input on this subject: Who makes the best .45 with the least amount of problems with feeding, jamming, misfires, etc ?

Colt, Kimber, S&W, Ruger, Sig, Rossi, Taurus, Norinco, Beretta, Glock, ..etc. ?

Not a fan of the .45, but as far as documentation, writings, and such, specifically on the .45, the Colt name will always stand out. I personally carry the H&K USP .40 Compact, and hihghly recommend either H&K or Beretta. Haven't seen it on paper yet but I understand that Beretta is getting ready to come out with a special LE model and is supposed to include the .45, this might be worth looking into. Just my opinion, hope it helps.

Thanks. I carry a Glock model 22 .40 cal as my primary, and a Ruger .357mag as my back up.

But I like the sub-compacts and the knock-down power of the .45.

I have used and carried Glocks extensively over the last 15 years. My 2 main carry guns are the Glock 21 and 30. I just added a Sig 220 ST to my stable.
I might add, I have had an original Kimber for about 9 years and it has been flawless. A lot of people have been having problems with the later models.

If I feel I need to step up in firepower, I also own 2 500 magnums. No, I don't want to have to defend that in court, but the "OH SH!T" factor is tremendous!

Personally I love single action 45s. I carry a springfield xd 40 (Love it) and I've had quite a few handguns in my time.

Started out with a ruger gp100 357. Then the Ruger p89, p90, and that compact one forgot the number. Several smith and wesson automatics (dept. issue), AMT 380, walther ppks, walther p22, ruger bull barell mark II special edition, Para Ordinance p-12, Kahr 9, Kahr 40 (great guns), a few shot guns, and now one bushmaster A3. I might have missed a few.

I have heard that Colt has gone downhill in the past years and you are paying more for name then anything.

Now on to your issue with the kimber.

I have heard that Kimbers are made to such tight tolerances, that untill you put several thousand rounds through it you may have issues. Needs to wear in. Heard this quite a bit so I am thinking it's true.

I really like springfields so I would recommend the new springfield 45s with integrated tactical rails. In fact I'm going to buy one when I feel like shucking at a grand for a gun which will be confiscated if I ever shoot someone with it.

The para's are good too but I am not sure I like their new models.

I used a Glock for 6 years on and off duty I made the jump 3 m ago to the springfield xd 40. I will not be going back to the Glock man. the springfield xd 40 is a sweet gun I will tell anyone to give one a try.

I bought my XD-40 around christmas of 2004 and liked it so much I bought the compact xd-40 as well! I was actually there to buy a glock but am sure glad I didn't (nothing against glock but I definately find I like the feel of the xd better).

Love the gun, one of the most natural pointing pistols I have ever used.

I put a wolf spring (20lb - 18 is stock I believe) and don's guide rod in my service size and it fires great (fired just fine before but I do feel a difference, it also allows quicker back on target).

I am going to buy the stuff to durakote my xd's though (the fininish on the older models is the only thing I didn't like, it wore pretty quickly). Eventually going to buy some TFO sights for em too (got a fiber optic front on my compact and really like it).

Did you buy the new kit that comes with the dual magazine carrier as well? I got the old kit that just came with the three mags, case, and fobus holster (just in case you didn't know fobus makes that paddle). The new one will be including a double mag carrier! Plus I hear the newer one's have a more durable finish on em.

I went with the Blackhawk set up close quarters holster. It came with the belt and paddle att. It is a retention holster you pull on it as hard as you can. But you will not get the gun out unless you push the button on the side of it. www.blackhawk.com

Another good choice is the Taurus Millennium PT145 that is my primary for now. I was going to go for the Glock 36but it did not fit my hand very well Glocks are a great gun but if you going to spend the cash go for something in a Springfield XD. That will be the next gun that I buy, my partner carries one I have shot it at the range and kick myself in the a$$ everyday for not buying one.

My favorite subject--again just my opinion-not a double action fan--kimber pro carry -even shoots light reloads no jamming(must brake in with full power 230 grain jacketed round nose approx 1000 rounds before using a carry piece- it helps fire form the feed ramp)-also a colt commander built by the colt custom shop and broken in the same as my kimber--these handguns are carried in a mitch rosen inside the pants holster locked and cocked with a shirt covering the grip--i also have a tactical para p-13 with nite sights and do like that also(also love this piece)--my son and most of my people carry sig 220st and a m3 tactical light on the rail--I reload 45 so plinking and fun ammo is dirt cheap--a box of 50 rounds is approx 2.50 so alot of shooting does not break the bank--for serious practise we use 185 grain remington golden saber ammo the same as we carry in the field.it is my opinion that the 45 is king of the defense handguns(many pro also agree)but the most important point is shoot a lot and shoot with something you can it with all the time--a 22 is better if hit hit with it than a 45 if you cannot hit the target
