Yak, I have been meaning to ask you if Chopper got over her case of Mono from Tony yet? I sincerely hope it didn't ruin her sterling reputation...

Ruffin, I agree, I hate hunting in trailers or fighting fires in them, fatal funnel and a chimney laying on it's side, respectively. I do remember that incident and I believe there was another one in OK last years as well, but my memory is fading with the years.

Dave, I am absolutely interested in you sharing how you tripped the hidden room. I have seen the bookcase doors on several websites for a project I am working on :) but only know what to look for based on their offerings, so please share the detail. I hope your son is sufficiently appreciative :)

Jay, I countenance one of my greatest accomplishments and proudest moments as being honored to hunt with the living legend, Joe Stiles as well as L. Scott Harrell. We had a blast. (The trick to Joe is keep your mouth shut. He is the consumate professional and he does not tolerate idle chit chat well. It starts with a look and then he will open your door for you... :) )

Bob, The pleasure was mine, and I hope to teach much more before the Alzheimer's kicks in! It is easy to look like a guru when you have dumb luck...

Scott

I will add a few things I have learned. Take it for what it's worth.

1) Hallways, Stairways, and Doorways are the 3 'ways' of death. Stay out of them as much as you can, and be very cautious when you can't.

2) Do not leave your keys in your vehicle, do not leave your vehicle unlocked with or without keys. Keep a spare key somewhere on your person or hidden on the outside of the vehicle. Good samaritans, nosy neighbors, or even your defendants kid will enjoy watching you sweat when they lock your keys in the vehicle.

3)Take no personal items in with you. Phone, watch, wallet, etc... If you drop it during a search consider it gone for good. We carry a pay-as-you-go phones with no numbers in them at all. Our personal phones stay in the vehicle. Which is locked and we all have spare keys. House keys shouldn't be on the same key ring as your vehicle keys.

4)If there are vehicles on the property search them when you can. The back floor board of a mid sized car is a great hiding place. So is the trunk. I found a guy hiding in the back of a min-van the homeowner told me hadn't been driven for years. It had 4 flats, and was surrounded by tall weeds. In another instance a vehicle I searched yielded a receipt with my defendants name on it from OReilly automotive. OReilly records your phone number when you buy something for warranty purposes. That eventually yielded an address.

5)Please wear gloves. Maybe it's just my area, or the early morning we search but most of the time defendants aren't wearing clothes. Dressing a naked man/woman is no picnic. Gloves at least prevent your hands from getting whatever they have on them from getting on you. Nitrile gloves are recommended since latex allergy can be common. The abundance of meth here makes gloves a pretty mandatory item.

6)Safety glasses/ski goggles.. OC in the eyes is pretty bad, but hair spray/deodorant is a pretty close 2nd. Once more meth, and meth cooks have some pretty nasty chemicals on hand that I don't want getting in my eyes if they are thrown.

7)Sunglasses in the sun. I know this sounds goofy, but it can take 20-30 seconds for your eyes to adjust from bright sunlight to interior room lighting conditions. Time you don't wanna spend standing in the doorway of a house/trailer/apartment waiting on your eyes to get used to the lower light.

I did have it.... but I have antibodies and the disease is dormant, although I still have symptoms.... which is why I am the way I am................. roger?

Sort of reminds me of that story about the couple that had just met and had spent the night together and while eating breakfast after a really long hot nite of lovemaking... the conversation turned to the deadly disease... AIDS... the girl looked at her partner with a real frown on her face and asked... "Oh, my God... you don't have AIDS do you..?"

and the guy looked at her also with a real frown and said.... "Hell no I don't have AIDS.... why???"

The girl looked at him with a sigh of relief and said.............. "I sure am glad to hear that, cause I sure wouldn't want to catch that again...?!" Image
