Yesterday one of my bail clients' body was found floating in the bay east of San Francisco. He was involved in drugs as a user, not seller. A nice guy that never hurt anyone. He also owns a lovable pit named Jesse.

Anyway, this is the 4th client of mine that has been murdered in 10 years. I also had 1 indemnitor murdered, 3 children of clients murdered and 2 other clients shot but survive.

So, I was just wondering, how many of you have had clients murdered while out on your bond?

Only one down in Louisiana. He was a big dealer but that was 20 years ago.

One in Henderson, NC... shot 5 times in his grandmothers house... he missed a court date and I called his wife... she said... in a very nonchalant voice... "Well, Mr. Marx... he won't be at any more court dates... he was shot to death last nite... " I don't think they caught the murderer.

Two OD'd.... one girl and one guy... then one other in a car wreck....

... and one other that ran to Philadelphia last year... turned up dead... his girlfriend was charged... he was found in an apartment with 4 bullets in his head... his girlfriend was picked up walking down the street with a smile on her face (talked to the detective on the case...) and was not at all upset... she had the gun in her pocketbook... his mother in Virginia had signed and also did not seem too upset... I guess family is just not that close anymore.... ?

I guess Tony... we are just dealing with folks that have, uh, a certain propensity... for 'trouble'??

I forgot about one. He died in a fire that was "suspicious." Could have been because of smoking illegal substances.

I had a skip who fled from here to Georgia where he continued to be a thief by stealing another motorcycle.
This time he was chased by PD shortly after, where he was shot about 25 times.

One of the fugitives that I apprehended in October of 1987, who incidentally stuck a 9mm in my forehead, (I absolutely hate hunting fugitives or fighting fire in a trailer) jumper off a bridge several yaers ago. He had left his driver's license and a suicide note, then duct taped his girlfriend to the passenger seat of his van, to force her to watch, then he took a swan dive. Hw washed up under the US Navy Dock at Solomons Island a few months later. Though I felt bad for the crisis that was his life, I did not attend his funeral or the one he had planned for me!

Had a skip years back that I just couldn't find, paid the forfeiture and called it a day. Last summer I was reading the paper and came across an article about skeletal remains being found in the woods behind the VA Hospital here. Forensics said the body had been there about 4 years and was identified by dental records as my guy. I made a copy of the article, gave it to my atty who filed the motion for remission and got my bond forfeiture back.

In CA, we don't have a remission period. Once we pay off the summary judgement unless we win on a tech on appeal, our money is gone.

I have the lawyer for my guy, the one they found floating in the bay, working on getting my bond exon.
