I am trying to get into the Fugitive Recovery industry.
One question I have: Do you need to be contracted / permitted by a bail bondsman to pursue and apprehend a fugitive with a failure to appear warrant?
My idea is to search local police department records for fugitives with failure to appear warrants, and independently begin to search for them, and hopefully apprehend them. Would I be able to return them to the police department if I do this?
For example, I have found a fugitive with a $500 bail amount (nothing compared to some of them, I know) who has a warrant for failure to appear. Would I be able to begin skip tracing this individual, apprehend him, and turn him into the local police department without contacting his bail bondsman (if he even has one)?
Thank you for your assistance.

Depends, if your into being charged with kidnapping, false arrest etc. by all means, go right ahead.
Now what I REALLY suggest you do is read as much as you can. I would suggest you start here:
http://fugitiverecovery.com/laws/massachusetts.htm
Especially the last part.
I would also highly recommend you go to the introduction section of this Forum and give an in depth intro with a proper signature line. After that is complete, continue to again read as much as you can on here, as most of the questions you may have, were already answered on this forum.
p.s. - and do not ask a question like this again until you do a little research, it will save you a ton of humiliation.

AlphaDog.. I suggest maybe you should memorize some of the good member's of this site's phone numbers here for a Bail Bondman.. it sounds like you might be needing one soon yourself if you choose to go out and play vigilante bounty hunter and arrest wanted fugitives without the proper credentials and training ..
In all seriousness.. heed all this advice that was given above to you by the members of the forum.. no one here wants to see you get jammed up doing something that may ruin your entire future. Go find out what is Legally necessary to become an Agent in your State and follow the proper rules..
Good Luck.

I don't know about Mass but in CA, our pds don't just let anyone come in and search their failure to appear records. They really don't have them. They are in the CLETS system not on paper. So they only access them when they make contact with someone and run the name, does the warrant pop up.
Unless of course, it is a high profile case and everyone is looking for the suspect. Every law enforcememt agency, that is.

To the original poster,
Fugitive recovery is a matter of contract law and arrest authorization transferred from one who possesses that right to his/her assignee, the BEA. Absent that contractual (read permission) agreement, you have no right to apprehend anyone, let alone investigate anyone with out permissible cause. Skiptracing is a gray area, that should not be, in my opinion. Specifically, it refers to bill collectors trying to locate an individual debtor which they own the debt on, therefore permissible cause. In my opinion, these people should be required to be licensed as there needs to be checks and balances on who has access to PII (Personally Identifiable Information).
Seek out proper training, and do not give up your day job. There is no short cut to success or any get rich quick scheme associated with this industry. It takes training, tenacity and integrity to become, and stay, successful.
Best of luck to you,
Scott

Now Tony......on the aforementioned high profile case....you left something out. Everyone including law enforcement agencies and, of course, Dog! After all...only a weasel would stand by and do nothing with all those fugitive warrants unresolved!
