This is another thread that was hacked into on 8/22/07 at app 2335 hrs.

App. a month ago I was visiting with the local gun store owner here in Ft. Payne, Al. The store is called "The Gun Center". Thom and I were discussing weapons, the war, etc and we ventured onto armour stuff..vests, rounds, protections etc. That's when he mentioned that a local National Guard Sgt. and a member of our local Sheriff's reserves was in need of a bp vest, but that he was just starting out in law enforcement, was married with kids, and had little to no money for leo gear. So I said I would do some checking around and send the request out in my circle here on the net.

Which I did. The request was out for a few days when I recieved a pm from Big Daddy 45 acp aka Scott T. of Mass. asking for more details. Anyway, make a long story short, he sent me a 2 yr old used, but in mint condition, Safariland level 3a bp vest for SFC Jones ! The only thing he asked for in return was to be reimbursed for shipping.

Through our many conversations, both electronic and phone, I discovered that he is also a huge fan of the group "Alabama". Well it just so happens that Mr. Owens frequents the same cafe I do 2-3 times a week. The owner of the cafe is also a friend of mine, Heath. so I got the idea why not get Mr. Owens to autograph something for Scott and send it to him ?

So I discussed this with Heath, and he agreed to help out. It took about 3 weeks to make it happen, but Heath was successful in securing Mr. Owens' autograph. I then mailed it to Scott T. on 8/18/07 and he recieved it on 8/20. He called me when he recieved it.

The autograph was done on the group's cd contianing old fashioned gospel hymns. It reads "Scott, thanks for your service to our country Randy Owens 2007".

Following is the letter I sent with the cd documenting the event:

"R. W. Blaylock, Jr.
108-B Gault Ave. So.
Ft. Payne, Al. 35967

To: Scott T. (full name and address witheld for security reasons)

Scott,

Enclosed is a CD by the group “Alabama” autographed by Randy Owens thanking you for what you did for SFC. Jones.

This was done at a local restaurant called the “Strand”, at approximately 1300 hrs, on 17 August, 2007. Witnessing this event were restaurant owners Heath, Miss Doris (his mother); another store owner Eric, several other people.

Strand Antiques
215 Gault Avenue North
Ft. Payne, Al.
256.997.0945

I apologize for this taking so long to get done, but I had to wait until Mr. Owens was available to discuss this with him.

Again, thank you for everything.

Ruffin."

So this is truly a remarkeable story. From SFC Jones to Thom to me to the net and vicariously to Scott T. back to me back to SFC. Jones back to Thom (whom I thanked for his participation in this) to Heath to Randy back to me and then finally back to Scott T. Truly a story of goodwill towards everyone and proves the positive power of the net.

Scott is definitely deserving of recognition for his selfless act.

Thank you Scott.

Take care and God Bless,

Ruffin.
