Well you cannot expect anything intelligent to come out of New York. A state that wants to restrict the size of the cola bottles. When reading the article and it mentions the young kid that was in Rikers on a $3,000 bail for years... Please..spare the this righteous b.s. Bail had nothing to do with the problems with this issue. Why did the public defenders office catch this injustice, The Warden..etc There are a lot of people that should be drawed and quartered over this..but the bail system is one of them...a $3,000 bail isn't a large bail by any stretch of the imagination. My two cents.

You are exactly correct. The shame of this scenario is that the Vera Foundation, a privately funded organization to study bail in 1960, and for the very same reason, has failed to correct the issues in 55 years. The focus is on the people with no control, the bail industry, because they have no control over the judiciary, the group with the proper power and oversight that could address this issue with appropriate policies and procedures.
