It is unfortunate that the dog was shot. Perhaps it is time to conduct an after action review in order to attempt to preclude repeating unnecessary mistakes similar in nature in the future. After action reviews are a common practice in the military and should also be exploited by those who operate in any professional capacity; especially those who are involved in law enforcement activities. This event brings some questions to my mind...

Why was there an obvious communication breakdown/failure between the dispatch center and the responding officer? In my opinion, this matters seems like a "no-brainer" to me. Whenever people are not absolutely certain regarding information that has been communicated to them, those people should always ask for that information to be repeated and confirmed.

What are that law enforcement agency's policies and procedures regarding:
managing,
responding to and
investigating
calls for service regarding reported burglaries?

Was Patrolman Kyle Ferreira operating in accordance with the guidelines set forth in his department's policies and procedures?

Was Patrolman Kyle Ferreira the only responder on scene during the occurrance of the officer involved shooting incident?

What changes could and should be implemented now in order to preclude repeating unnecessary mistakes of this nature in the future?

This CRAP is happening all over the place ! Tapes of the Dispatch need to be reviewed and should it be case that he called back the wrong addie and Dispatch did not correct him . . . well . . . there is a Dispatcher that needs to be minus a job. This time it was someone's beloved furface that died . . . next time it could be and has been in other such instances a human.

Yak.... I could not even look at the video... I did try to read the article but had to stop when the video started playing in the background...

You know what I have to say about stuff like this.... I can tell you this.... my dogs have never been aggressive toward anyone unless they chose to enter my property or my home unannounced... and in the event that someone were to harm any of my dogs.... I dare say, I would probably be calling a bondsman, cause I would be in jail.

I wasn't planning on commenting but I have settled down since the you first posted.

We had almost a similar incident last year.

I was in my office and just happened to look up at the surveillance cameras monitor. There were 4 or 5 cops at our back gate about to walk through it.

I saw one of the cops suddenly place his hand on his gun. Just as I was running to the back door Pepper our Pit starting barking. She did not go out the dog door but was barking quite a bit.

The dogs all stayed inside the office and I went out to talk to the cops.

They were called on a allege domestic between my neighbors and were trying to gain excess to the rear of their retail store through our property.

Bottom line, the cop that was ready to draw his gun said he saw the large dog door and did not know what kind of dog(s) were at the office.

I'm sure if Pepper had went out she would have been shot simply because she is a Pit, even though she is very people friendly and skiddish.

More often than not she will run away from anyone or anything that confronts her, even other smaller dogs.

Thank you folks who responded to this event. Very painful and close to the heart, special apologies to my good friend Bill Marx as I too would be sharing a cell with you Brother, Imagine That!!.

My initial thoughts were :

What if this was a Bounty Hunter ??

What if this was a bounty Huner with the Right Address??

As told to US by the AG's Office ... NJ is NOT part of the USA. I could'nt agree more.

Again, TY for your responses. Yak & Chopper
