Just wanted to comment on the site "LinkedIn".

I think it is a good networking site but I also think you may want to scrutinize the folks you connect with on that site.

Many times the businesses that approach you are in no way connected to your industry and in fact are nothing more than attempts to sell you something or get you involved in some off the wall endeavor that very likely... is worthless... of course, you have to make the call on it's worth.

I put a short statement on my LinkedIn profile that pretty much runs anyone away from me... probably pisses off a bunch of people but it just got to the point that i was inundated with crap from people trying to hook up with me from sites and businesses that, frankly, I had absolutely no interest in... even got a few hits from what appeared to be "lot lizards"... if ya know what those are 8) 8)

Anyway... I am extremely selective on who I hook up with so if you have dropped me a "connect line" and I did not reply .... just chalk it up to an old man who probably couldn't help you anyway....

BTW.... FYI... here is a copy of the disclaimer I put in my profile....  8)

"I am basically retired but still write bonds and do very low key investigations. This may be unusual to hear but I am not interested in growing my business, not interested in teaming up with anyone else in this or affiliated businesses, not interested in buying anything or spending any money on someone else's ideas. Sorry to sound rather cynical but I often get calls from folks wanting to sell me something... not happening, so save your calls. I am comfortable and at my age, I stay more relaxed and in the country, camping, hunting, shooting sports and promoting NABBI... of which I am one of the founding members. You can reach me most anytime on my Cell: 4342940222"

That usually will deter most, but still, sometimes I get some rather crazy offers... oh well....

I only have 59 connections... and some of them I need to trash but.... don't feel like taking the time to weed them out.... does anyone else have thoughts on this site.... I do think it is ok but sometimes, it is a pain in the ..... posterior...

Closed my account long time ago for exactly the same reason and I spent way toooooooooo much time on this darn computer and internet anyway.

Bill, I am very much younger than you and am happy with my amount of business I do. Not going to be a millionaire, but then I don't have to spend any time chasing skips or bail premium payments.

Besides, I am a "kept man" with a sugar momma that takes good care of me!

See you in October when she runs the Marine Corp Marathon in DC.

I just deleted my account... frankly, I saw no worthwhile networking on that site... basically just a lot of people trying to sell their products or services and IMHO... I gained no worthwhile benefit... anyway... that is of course my opinion and we all know what those are worth...

So, if you look for me on LinkedIn.... I am gone. 8)

One more thing about Lindedlin and Facebook for that matter. I didn't like the way they want you to post so much personal info about yourself for the world to see.

Your place of birth, current city, education history, birth dates, family, etc. Just so much private info that the wrong person can use and create problems for you.

I am amazed at how many people, some we know from this and other forums, post their whole life story complete with photos on open websites.

Tony, my Facebook page has a lot of my life on it.... but since I don't work for the CIA... and I have nothing that anyone can take from me... at least without a rather large skirmish.... I really don't worry about it.... most people can find out anything they want and I enjoy posting pictures and the interaction with friends.... I do try to keep my security on the site limited but even that is probably not sufficient....

Frankly, I don't honestly believe any of us can remain hidden for long and if the truth is known... we are all on a list somewhere, for something and it really doesn't matter what we may do to keep hidden.

So I worry about other stuff.... I just trashed LinkedIn because I didn't like the people that were trying to attach themselves... so I just hung up the phone....

If a person is on the internet.... their information is offered to the world already.... and those are the facts.

My only concern... and this is minimal... is when they come in my backdoor... how much lead can they eat before they get me.... 8)

Without mentioning names. I had a friend call me saying he had "vouched" for me or whatever you call it on my Linkden account. I had no idea I had an account. No doubt I set this account up but really don't remember when or why. So, if you get anything asking you to "link up" with me, just ignore it, I haven't asked anyone to do that I don't think. Next, trying to figure out how to delete this account.

Keeping my 3 facebook accts, and you guys know why.

Bill

To delete the account you have to go to the account setting or profile. They make it hard to do it.

It took me about 15 minutes to find the right links to finally delete my account.

I too still have a FB account. Its just not in my real name and I use it only to, you know what.
