Great choice... there are many to choose from. May I ask which you are considering? Colt. I found just a basic old style one. I do not know why, but it just feels durable and traditional. Great piece of history.

Frankly, you cannot go wrong... that weapon has protected men and women for a very long time... lots of other guns out there... Glocks seem to be the mainstay with a lot of newbies and that is fine... but frankly, you can't beat the old reliable 1911... I have several and all shoot very well... Here is a picture of an old Camp Perry National Match 1911 Colt that my daughter inherited from a friend several years ago... she is selling it (to my dismay)... valued somewhere between $1500 and $3000 depending on markings and of course who wants it and what they are willing to pay... it is a real gem... we shall see where it goes... got a guy in Colorado that is very interested, we shall see... I personally have a Ruger SR1911 (which shoots extremely well), a Colt Defender (small frame, which I have not fired and maybe won't), a Springfield 1911 that has been customed a bit... and also shoots very well... There are many, many out there... most are not cheap, but look around for a decent name and look it over closely.... good luck.

I have to admit I used to carry the Glock 21. Being slightly older and a bit nostalgic I went back to a Kimber Warrior II 1911. Nothing like a heavy chunk of metal attempting to drop your ants and show ur drawers. My first gun every was a 1911 have had 2 others in-between. I like the feel, they way they shoot and just plan cool factor. Heck if I can hit them with 8 then I can always throw it and knock them down.

Agent 329 wrote: Taurus 24/7 G2 in .40 cal I also will mention... I do often carry a little Taurus Millennium Pro, GIII... 145, .45... lots of folks give this name a bad rap, but this little gun shoots well and has never failed to feed and fire... I added some nice Trijicon night sights... a bit expensive but very good since I do not plan on adding a lazer to this one... Here's a neat little .gif file... right click the image and save it on your computer.. then paste it where ever you want....

I carry a Springfield 1911 .45 with the doublestack magazine.
I also (though not "technically" a firearm) carry an X26 Taser.

I wasn't aware that a Springfield 1911 .45 was "double-stacked"...??? I may be misunderstanding your term.... I was under the impression that double stacked referred to rounds being alternated side to side and single stack was only one above the other. Every 1911 I have is single stacked. There are some custom 1911's that are hi capacity... double stacked but the stock Springfield 1911 .45, as far as I know... is single stacked. Just confused me a bit...?? but of course,,, I am old and half blind... If you do in fact, have a double stacked Springfield 1911, .45... I would be interested in seeing a picture... post it here.
