What you need to start up your agency... fill all requirements for legality, whatever that may cost and then get hooked with a surety company, after you get all the proper credentials... all you really need is a car, a cell phone and a couple of ink pens... not trying to be flip here but that is all you really need... what you may want is another subject... you just need to get to the jail, have all your ducks in a row and be able to communicate... ... that is all I had when I started over 12 years ago... (although, I do have a much nicer cell phone now!)... and frankly... all the other stuff is just window dressing... you can be successful if you market yourself properly and stay legal in your dealings with people. Physical offices.... guns.... tasers... any and all the other paraphernalia... fancy cars with all the computers and other stuff... is totally not needed starting out... as you have been advised by Mr. Jeff... get licensed and hook up with some knowledgeable people... but as you have been told... that may be almost an impossible feat in the Florida environment... ... damn....... 3000 agents in Miami.............. I wouldn't even consider it.... I think JC Pennys is hiring... Hey Bill .. here in FL .. having a Bail Bond Office is MANDATORY .. and it must be open M-F 8am to 6pm .. You must have Staff there to maintain it also .. as the State rarely .. but DOES check to see if you are open .. plus having ALL the Agents working there listed on the Front Door as well.

Eric, Jeff gave you lots of great accurate information. I can only add a few things.
1. Most insurance companies will not even give you your own contract without at least five yours experience.
2. You are in the Tampa area correct? Tampa is a lot less competitive than south Florida. If you go through the courses and get your temp license you will have a lot better chance gettin hired in that area.
I know Armando Arcos bail bonds in Tampa (a very respected company) was recently looking for bail agents. You might want to give them a call.
The biggest problem your going to find is that people don't like sponsoring interns because as a intern you really can't do too much. So they have to pay you to be there as well as pay a fully licensed bondsman to actually post bonds, or make the arrest. Interns need to be accompanied while making arrests and can not post bonds. It's difficult but not impossible, people do it all the time.

If you are in Orlando than you are in luck the Florida Surety Agents Association is offering the 120 Hour Bail Bond pre-licensing course in Winter Park starting on the 29th of this month. Call 352-253-2253 to register. visit www.FSAA.com for more info, and click on the education Tab you are going to at least have the 120 hour course and the University of Florida INS-3 course completed before any Bail Bond Company will even take you serious as a intern. As far as the number for armando arcos bail bonds, i dont have it on hand. I can find it very easily but im sure you could too being a private investigator already. =) good luck with everything, send me a message when you are done with your courses and maybe i will know somebody in your area looking for help at that time.

Eric,
Get licensed and give me a call. i have a friend in Orlando who is also the executive vice president of a VERY large insurance company. I'll hook you guys up and hopefully you guys can work something out.
Take Bill M advice. You don't need (but might like) all that stuff when starting out.
I like to call this Orlando guy my friend but in reality he has asked me to do some recovery work for him. A good, no BS, type of guy. You guys that have been around a while know this guy, but leaving his name out of this post for now.
