Time is Running Out – Register Today! NABBI Conference St Louis, MO Some people have said they will make the next one. If we don’t get enough people to St Louis, there may not be a next one! The bottom line is, if you are a bail recovery agent, bounty hunter, bail fugitive agent, what ever the term you prefer to use, if you don’t step up and do something to protect your livelihood, it may just go away.

Ok folks... I registered, paid my 100 bucks, made my plane reservations and later next week will book the room... so if any of you want to cancel... "since I will be there"... ya better move quick... You may actually be surprised at just how serious I can be if the need arises.... "if the need arises"... Ok folks, get on the horn and make your arrangements... times wastin'... daylights a burnin'... this is one meeting you will want to attend... it may actually be a bit "fun"... as well as very informative... If you plan on staying in this business for more than a month or two... you want to seriously consider making this event.... you'll spend more money buying cigarettes... in fact, quit smoking and you will immediately be able to pay your way out here.......... see ya in "Gateway".

I think that this will be an amazing event, regardlesss of the number of attendees. That being said, I think we need to recruit attendees from outside this forum. Maybe a fax to all the bonding companies in the St. Louis area would be a good start? I will be glad to fax all the bonding companies in the Memphis area. I have given this considerable thought and I believe that once we have this association up and running, we will have a better chance of attracting members. Most bail bondsman and bail recovery agents are suspicious by nature. It's one of the things that allow us to survive in an inhospitable environment. There will be a lot of people who for various reasons will have a wait and see attitude regarding anything avante guarde in this industry. It will be up to those with vision to put something in place that will be attractive to both bail agents and bail recovery agents to join. This has been a long time coming, and in my opinion, this may be the best chance I have seen in years to make it happen. I look forward to seeing everyone in St. Louis.

I have been contacted by a couple in the St Louis area and they are planning on attending. Also, the NABBI info has been on 2 other forums, bailrecovery@ yahoo.groups and adventuretrades.com. As I mentioned earlier, I also have talked to many people at this weeks PBUS in Las Vegas. Two more bail agents there stated they would attend. One of them Tim BeShea mentioned that he knows you very well Joe. So, the word has been out there since last fall. If I may complain a bit, one of the most vocal persons pushing to move the meeting date up, has not been heard from for months. I originally was lookinmg at a May or June date for this meeting. But she and others suggested that we hold it sooner as to not let the excitment we had in June at the Nugget fade too much. Now she is gone and so are some of the early supporters of NABBI. The Boss and I will be there and quite honestly, these events are very often the only time we can be away from home together on a vacation, even if it is a working one. BTW, I think we all wish we could be as rich as Scott and Bill.

As many of you know - I regularly post information on the many Social Media sites. Additionally, I have been sending emails and notices to others. Recently, I sent out over 6000 emails to people that have either registered in the forums, posted in the directory, or those that have sent emails to FRN. I have several others that have stated they are going but have not yet officially registered & paid. Today we are up to 10 official registrants. This is a start... Any additional suggestions on marketing this event are greatly welcomed! As a special incentive: ( as well as help recoup some of my expences! ) I am offering an additional 20% discount off Premium Directory Membership (any level) to any Registered Member that also registers for the March NABBI Conference‼1 Year @ $50 ($10 refund!) 2 Year @ $75 ($15 refund!) 3 Year @ $100 ($20 refund!) 5 Year @ $175 ($37.50 refund!) Lifetime @ $300 ($60 refund!)

Sadly the June / July dates would have been better for me (also expressed at that time). I fully agree with the if you build it they will come theory . . . however I have to have a place to live and since my funds are gone and I have taken on extra hours at the store . . . the other employees have scheduled their vacations. Still promoting the meeting . . . .

Howdy Folks! I wish the conference was set for June/July. As it stands, it might prove troublesome getting there and home again. February and March are the most fearsome months for blizzards in Colorado. Since I aim to drive there and back, I'm hoping for the best. But it is entirely possible that I could find myself stranded somewhere real exciting, like Cheyene Wells, and unable to get anywhere west until roads reopen.
I'll have a metal detector along to seek plunder along the way, but a couple of feet of snow can prove a discouragement in that regard pretty quick!
I'm going to hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and look forward to meeting ya'll at the conference. If I ain't there, consider organizing a search party!
I reserved a room, now gotta pay my membership. Hope to do that before the 3rd! Mel

As a reminder, this Saturday is the last day to book a room under the group dicsount rate. Some have said that they can find cheaper rooms elsewhere. That is probably true.
The reason for the group discount rate and minimum food orders is to allow a group to spread the cost of the meeting facility over the entire group.
If we were to "rent" the meeting space and pay for it at the going rate along with the audio / visual equipment, it would cost the association thousands up front.
So the hotels figure out that if we, the association, guarantee X amount of rooms used by our group and a certain minimum food orders, then the attendees could pay for some of the meeting cost.
Also, the association then could lower the registration fee we charge.
For example, I just attended the PBUS at the Flamingo in LV. The PBUS conference registration was $425 for members. $525 for non members. The group room rate was $99 plus tax and fees per nite.
With out a group room guarantee, the PBUS registration would probably have been double that amount because they would have had to pay for the meeting rooms and food out of the registration fees.
If you have ever planned a wedding or party at a hotel, you would know what the rental costs are. They are not cheap.
Finally, Bill and I may have ruffled a few feathers on the other NABBI thread. At least on my part, I am frustrated with the low planned attendance.
The committees have put a lot of work into this event. I have obligated myself to thousands of dollars in meeting costs with the hotel. All be it on behalf of an association that is not an association yet.
All this was based on many members on this and other forums stating that this was a great idea and that we needed to get moving on this ASAP.
Now many of the original supporters are silent and not attending.
If anyone has a legitimate family or financial issue that prevents them from attending, no one will blame them for missing the meeting. But if some are going wait to see if this thing can get off the ground, then come in when the initial work has been done, I do have a big problem with that. I am not referring to any particular person. I only hope that those that can not make the meeting can't do so for the reasons I mentioned earlier and not because they only want to talk the talk.

I know I am not the only ex otr trucker or traveler on this site. Be that as it may, my forthcoming suggestions are intended for those less educated to otr traveling.
1) Carpool with as many people as possible, then share the fuel expenses.
2) Pack your own groceries. Over half of the major expenses on the road are meals/snacks. Many rest areas/campgrounds have permanent grills available for public use.
3) Most people don't know that most professional truck stops have public showers available for nominal fees. So you can save hotel money by paying $10 for a shower vs. $100 for a hotel night.
4) Sleep in either rest areas for free, or various camp grounds such as KOA, again much cheaper than hotel rooms.
5) Calculate how much fuel you will need for round trip. Then check area gas prices along your route. Carry extra fuel cans with you. When you come across the cheapest price on your route, then top off everything. You will save money on fuel that way.
Don't buy into the commercialism of otr traveling: hotels, expensive restaurants, convenience stores, price gouging gas stations.
6) Optional expenses such as recreational activities, gambling, falling prey to tourist traps, are all non-essential costs one can do without. The only mandatory expenses otr are the same as at home: food, shelter, hygiene, and fuel. Anything else is simply unneeded.
7) Last, but not least, make sure your vehicle is in optimal operating condition. Not only does this reduce the likelihood of a breakdown otr, it also insures the highest mpg possible for your vehicle when operating in normal conditions. This also includes proper tire inflation. Also remember to re-fuel at night. You lose less fuel to evaporation then during daylight hours, especially in high temperatures.
I sincerely hope these tips may enable more of you to attend. take care and God Bless.
