Oh, I saw that, wasn't attempting to disqualify anything anyone had said, just pointing to our bond revo guidelines, as some people mentioned they revoke as little as possible. Most MN bondsmen that I know, and most that I have worked with, prefer not to revoke bonds but leniency can make it so they can't work.

Having a copy of the warrant will not do, you are not LE. You will have to be able to prove that you have a right to the partys' body. Every State is different and, yet, some are the same and then, there are some, that are just, not.
In Minnesota - you don't get a copy of the warrant, you get a letter and a court document "Notice of Forfeiture" for FTA's. Revo's are a different animal and treated differently. The Smart BEA will ask the BBA for that info and I always make sure they have it. In some counties, you can go to the warrant page and print off something that says Warrant. It has a picture, the charge and the fact that a warrant has been issued. If you really want something that says warrant, you can print off the court record. All of that helps when you turn them in. I helped a BEA turn someone in and the deputy told me that the more documentation you bring, the less paperwork he has to fill out.

Ron, why wait for the letter from the Court ? Bottom line as I have already written ... You MUST have Proof that the body belongs to you. That is the BOND Contract. Quote: Have a certified copy of your Bond. Having a copy of the warrant will not do, you are not LE. You will have to be able to prove that you have a right to the partys' body. No matter where ya go . . . If you cannot provide proof you seriously risk what you can do or will be allowed to do. I think this is pretty much applicable in all situations.

I spoke to a police supervisor about this once; our local L.E. wants you to call them prior to making an arrest. You have to give them the case number, the name, d/o/b/ and date the warrant was issued prior to attempting the arrest. If for some reason the police have to come to the scene - they will ask if you have that Notice of Forfeiture. If you have to go to an area college to pick someone up there, the campus police will ask you for a Copy of the Notice of Forfeiture. Generally the Campus Cop will make the arrest and bring them out of the campus to you. If you have to pick someone up at the Mall of America, Security will not let you pick anyone up without that Notice of Forfeiture and their staff will make the arrest. If you have to pick someone up at a bar or night club - the bouncer will ask you for that Notice of Forfeiture. You always take a bond contract with you, but having that Notice will make things easier.

If I go after a skip myself (as the writing bondsman).... I simply download the Bail-piece/Surety Capias off the state website for the appropriate court/jurisdiction... fill it out online, print 3 copies, take it to the clerks office and have it dated and signed and go get the person... period.
If I hire a BEA, I do the same but provide a contract and copies of all pertinent info, including a picture... and they do it.
I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS... contact LE in the area and let them know what and who I am doing... ask if they need to be on the scene or if I am in another state, I always have a copy of the laws pertaining to that state so I know up front what is required (or at least have a handle on what is supposed to happen... and that is not always easily known... there is usually something you forgot to do...) and make the move.
Your appearance and demeanor have about as much to do with your acceptance by LE as anything... be positive, be knowledgeable and 'don't be a smart azz'... it really isn't that complicated if you simply follow procedure and as said here... have your "ducks" in a row.
Hell, if I can do this.......... anyone can.....................

Interesting . . . You must always have the Notice of Forfeiture available for them to view.
Glad that I am not working in MN . . . Do not have to wait for an FTA and Notice of Forfeiture . . . My person messes up . . . can go get them and toss their sad butts right in Jail.

It's about what happens when you get to the county jail. The deputies have to write the reports accordingly.
On an FTA, all the Deputies really care about is the existence of a warrant. The paperwork is for if/when the cops show up while you are looking for the skip.
On the revocation, they want as much paperwork as possible that you can give them; so that they can cover their backsides as far as any liability is concerned. (false arrest & confinement, etc)

Howdy Folks! I have been reading this thread with some interest. Don't understand where the sterotype of "cowboy" behavior came from, because most of them I know are pretty darn laid back. Downright laconic, to be truthful. But that ain't my primary motive for writing here.
If often doesn't matter what the demeanor of an FRA might be, when you're coming to task with a 'tweaker', they can turn surly in a real big hurry. They're paranoid, twitchy and unpredictable.
We managed a real tame sort of arrest on one particular fellow last week who had 14 pages of rap-sheet on his record. Among his credits were "assault on a police officer" and a whole mess of other charges including drug raps. When we took him down, he was pretty passive because we woke him up at 2:00am to escort him to the county bed and breakfast. But we were prepared for any antics that might arise. We kept everything on an even keel, and the arrest went smooth as milk.
When we are going to apprehend a known tweaker, that is something altogether different. It don't much matter what your own attitude is when handling dynamite, it has a certain propensity toward unpredictability. You just gotta hope for a nice calm apprehension, but be prepared to tangle if it turns ugly. And it can turn ugly very rapidly and unexpectedly. There is an old saying around these parts: "Trust in God, but tether your horse well."
This is an interesting thread, and thanks for the dialog.

tsuggs wrote: Hey, You guys don't still have hitching posts outside the saloons do you? Howdy Pard! Well, to be honest, not so many as when I first arrived in Colorado. They had them in Woodland Park some 40 years ago, but the place got a growth spurt and it just ain't the same. Cripple Creek had them too, but with legalized gambling there, certain upgrades took place and most of them have vanished also. But there are still towns around the state where they remain in place. I imagine some even get used now and again. But to answer your question, perhaps a photo would do better! Attachment:
