New Jersey Bounty Hunter Act

I have been in contact with YAK for awhile on this situation in NJ and hope i helped with good advice---I BELIEVE WE ALL OWE YAK AND THE GROUP OF BEA'S THAT IN THE LAST MINUTE MADE THEIR VOICES HEARD IN THE NJ LEGISLATURE A DEBT OF GRATITUDE--It is not easy getting heard by legislative bodies but they did it and won this battle --the war is not over yet so lets all support or fellow bea's in nj

Isn't it funny how the the republicans were on our side and the democrats were on the side of the skip--I quess it's a liberal think like I have been saying all along

You guys aren't out of the woods on this one yet....Remember, they tabled the amendments for an emergency hearing on Monday, Jan. 9, 2006.

You guys need to be campaigning your butts off over this weekend-door knocking, calling, e-mailing all of the legislators to persuade them to vote your way.

Senator Turner struck me as being very adamant about her bill, and she has a lot of supporters.

You guys won the first round, but this match is far from over.

We will not stop until the battle is over. After their emergency session on monday, it is our understanding that the procedure and open hearings will be brought up again in its full package to be voted on. We are more prepared now to speak the facts as we know them and discredit the fallacy's in which they speak.
Turner's supporters such as Ronald Rice, a former leo and senator from Irvington, (a malignant growth off it's bordering town "Newark") which was taken over by N J State Police after corruption in their police dept a little over a year ago doesn't seem to have the facts straight either. How can Turner be so sure that "her" constituents aren't lying about their money and jewelry being stolen after their "crib" was ransacked in Trenton as she defiantly babbles on about that it did. Funny how the agents followed the husband the next morning and led them right to the skip. (This incident was posted here by Lance not long ago). I personally think Turner needs a reality check and an attitude adjustment if she's going to continue to hold the position that she does.

Bounty Hunter Bill Approved In NJ Senate

(AP) TRENTON, N.J. The New Jersey Senate has unanimously approved an amended version of a bill that would require bounty hunters to get licenses, training and background checks.

The bill, passed today, was then sent back to the Assembly for possible action in the waning hours of the two-year legislative session.

It would go to acting Governor Codey if approved.

It had passed the Assembly 76 to two last month, but the Senate revised it today. So the Assembly must consider the new version.

It was changed over the objections of a sponsor, Senator Shirley Turner.

Turner opposed an amendment exempting current bounty hunters from a requirement that they have at least five years of law enforcement experience.

She said protections are needed to “ensure that bounty hunters do not trample the rights of innocent individuals when pursuing guilty ones.”

After being approved by the Senate today the bill was sent back to the Assembly and was PASSED with 76 affirmed, 2 neg and 0 extensions.
The bill now will be signed by our acting Governor Codey.

Lance, the newspaper article was worded in a way to leave people confused, including myself. Yes, Princess Turner was for the 5 year requirement to obtain a PI license in order to hunt in NJ. This is the ammendment we fought for, to overturn this requirement with a grandfather law enabling any BEA with 5 years under their belt as an agent, are exempt from Barnes/Turner's strict regulation.
After the Senate approved the amendment for us, it was then returned to the assembly and voted on. As seen on the video, it was 76 votes to accept our ammendment and 2 votes not to accept the ammendment.
( we still can't figure out who voted no. LOL ). The bill is now passed and will be signed by our governor within 2 months. A major victory for our industry and a good start for regulation and organization of BEA's in our state as to be heard in the future.
