A very interesting post indeed. The whole bit from start to finish was actually interesting...

Unfortunately, under most circumstances so many people even under threat of the loss of their own life or the lives of those around them would not have the mental "instinct" of self-preservation at all costs. Especially now, with budgeting for police departments is concerned, there are less and less police officers available to respond. Even a single-shot break open 12ga can be had for $200.00 or less and with 00 buckshot makes a reasonable self-defense tool for inside of a home.

The problem is so many people rely on others to do their bidding for them. I know many people (even on a small scale) that will scarf down a 3 patty hamburger; but if given a firearm and taken out to the barn where the cow is WOULD NOT under any circumstances point that weapon between those two horns and pull the trigger...people never cease to make me shake my head in confusion.

Our society today is lead to believe that violence is so completely grotesque that even in self-defense is not an option. Because guys like Richard Kuklinski, Jeffrey Dalmer, John Wayne Gacy...didn't get the memo about "Violence is Bad" I would be willing to bet 6 out of 10 people if you tossed them a Glock 17 at 20 feet away and told them "Either you shoot me or I am going to beat you to death" while walking towards them with a lead pipe would either not touch the sidearm or would hold it, point it and hesitate.

The availability of firearms is not the key...the key is people with a mindset to use them and even perhaps do so when not in imminent danger. People will watch, observe, maybe even call the police but very seldom is someone willing to STOP what is going on...because they don't want to get involved or are so worried that they might lose their magazine-cover figure.

do a search for my post.... "How to catch a wild pig". I think that sums it up about our current social condition and our future, unfortunately.
