Shortcut to introduction hereI'm in the Greater Pittsburgh area and would like some ideas on what is considered an acceptable amount of liability insurance. I have emailed a couple bail bond agencies asking what they require a FRA maintain to be considered for work. I haven't heard back from anyone yet but before obtaining a policy I want to hear from FRAs as well. There is a local bail bond agency that states on its website that it has work for Constables and/or trained & insured bail enforcement agents. When I called to inquire about the insurance, I was told they only use Constables. I should have asked what the minimum was before they used only Constables. For those that don't know, in PA a Constable is a sworn peace/law enforcement officer that's either elected or appointed for a 6 yr term. What I'm looking for is some idea of how much coverage to request. I was given a ball park estimate for 50K per person/300k act or aggregate not sure. The premium was $1500-$1800. Normally when it comes to insurance I just max out the limits but I may have to make a cost/benefit analysis here. Thanks.

Appreciate the reply (Although I had already read that post)but I was looking for an idea how much coverage working agents generally keep. The more I think about it though, maybe its the kind of question that shouldn't be answered in a public forum. I'll just ask the Ins agents what they would recommend. My butt hurts already .

If you carry O.C spray $100,000 If you carry a baton, $500,000 If you carry a taser, $1,000,000 If you carry a shotgun with LTL rounds, $2,000,000 If you carry a pistol, $10,000,000
Try finding a insurtance company that will cover those limits.

Is this regarding liability for your bail bond business? Or are your talking about you as an independant contractor doing recovery work? I don't know about the business insurance thing, but when I first took my CCW class, I was told by my instructor to get an "Umbrella" policy from my auto insurance guy. You have to get the highest limits possible under your auto poicy and then you can purchase an umbrella policy for like 1,000,000 of liability coverage. At least that is what is was like several years ago. Maybe someone else can add to this or correct me if i'm wrong.
