Dogs:

There are a number of remedies for dealing with these animals.

1) Always recon your target area BEFORE attcking. Part of your case intel is to find out what counter-security measures your target has employed. Therefore you should never be surprised if a dog appears on the scene.

2) Chemical Sprays: Most chemcial sprays are effective on animals. DO NOT spray directly into thier eyes, as it can cause permanent blindness. Again, if you hit a house with a guard dog, and your fugitive is not there, and you injure an animal, if you don't get arrested you will at least probably be sued.

3) Animal tranquilizers: You can at most Horse Tac supply stores buy large animal "sleeping aids". I cowboyed for years out west and I can walk into most any horse store and buy over the counter medicines for horses, including tranquilizers. You carry some of these with you, cut it in thirds, wrap it up in something the dog will eat like chesse, meat, etc...throw it over the fence, dog eats it, and in a couple of minutes and he is sound asleep.
CAUTION: THESE PILLS ARE DESIGNED FOR ANIMALS WEIGHING A THOUSAND POUNDS OR MORE. DO NOT ADMINISTER A COMPLETE PILL TO A 100-200 LB DOG. IT WILL KILL THEM.

4) Whistles/Alarms: Several companies now have released "chase-away" products for the general population who walk, jog, bicycle, etc. These are non-lethal and render a high-pitched frequency that most dogs can't tolerate. Thier reaction is to flee the area where the noise is.

The last thing regarding animals: Most of the fugitives we chase do very little jail time for all of the reasons most of us already know (that is a sep topic). Killing a person's pet might endure yourself to that fugitive until YOUR dying day.

Again, down here in the South, you can pretty much do anything to a Southerner except for 3 things:

1) NEVER, EVER call a man an S.O.B You will definitely have to fight him then. That is a direct insult to Momma...and that simply isn't tolerated down here.

2) You don't mess with a man's ride.

3) You don't mess with a man's DOG.

You mention some very good points concerning shotguns.

I am in no position to judge any BEA who chooses this fire power as his primary (even secondary). I just hope that the individual in question knows EXACTLY what he/she is doing.

Most of you will think me crazy for this post-but i can say it is harder for me to harm an animal than kill a person-in my career as a detective i have taken bites rather than kill a dog why blame the dog for doing what the master taught it.people do make informed decisions dogs react to their training.I am sure anybody that comes in my home at night with out my permission is dead -my rotties do not discriminate -white -black -brown -yellow or green your dead no ifs and or buts about it your dead-my male will put you down and rip out your throat and my female will just chew on anything she wants-i have had pd k9 handlers try to enter my home without going down and they could not-so again i say tactics is everything if you know about the dogs than plan for them-do servailence and wait for the bad guy to come out use a pretext to get him out--i could go on hours about pretexting if the guys car is outside pretend you cashed your car into his put a smoke bomb in the tail pipe or under the car knock on the door and say your car is on fire--if the skip is that bad have the pd do the recovery with you watching from a safe distance--again this calling is not for everybody- if you cannot get your head around the fact you might have to take human life to defend yours or your team mates run away quickly now
I have killed six times in career as a cop- detective it is not easy to live with nor am i proud of what i was forced to do by the bad guys but i was alittle better and they made the decision to die not me.with this calling comes many perils not just death-mental anguish that rips at you very soul- decisions that mean life or death not only for you but other people.you need balls big enough to fill a dump truck we face the angel of death every day-even though i am not a religous or god fearing person at the end of the day i mutter a thank you for me and my team--if you can not digest this get out because you become a danger to your crew -the angel will win

Listen you guys- you are awsome. I have learned a ton just reading in this website and I TRULY respect your experience and authority. No problem there.

I am going to ALWAYS have backup. I have a pastor friend who is 5' tall 5' wide, an ex biker and a blackbelt. He will tell people about the love of God while giveing them "cuff and stuff". I have a good relationship with the sheriff's department in the county and I run my decisions by them, to be sure that I am choosing smart. Of course I can't get any guarantees as they wouldn't know what a ship would do, but the administration is helping me to minimize risk. Much of our county is VERY rural. Punks and junkies have some across from Portland Oregon and set up shop here (meth labs, car jacking) we even had a homicide by the owner of a glass busines in Portland. He was with 3 friends in masks and fatigues and they broke into a party, robbing people and killed one guy.

The glass guy is out on 750K bail, his three accomps are either still in on 750K or 1 Million. The sheriff's want someone who can follow the rukes and help them.

I will not do anything to break the law. I would never be a lone wolf or a bounty hunter. But my contacts tell me that since all BEAs have to be licensed in two months, I will have a lot of opportunity.
