When I first got into the recovery wise, I use to do some pick-ups for them in the Toledo, ohio area. Had a hard time getting paid from them, But we got paid.

Just a bit of advice... make sure you are on the right organization, that name... "Bad Boys Bonding" has been used by a number of agencies.... attempting connection with the movie of same name.... so just be sure you are researching the same group and members.

thanks guys and great advice speezack.was just curious if anybody knew anything about them because what i know of them isnt good.Lately their recovery agents are picking up forfietures from the courthouse without the consent of the bondsman and then re bonding them through thier bonding company.I was just thinking that it was not ethical at all and seems to me that it is illegal.please correct me if i am wrong.

This practice has been documented in central and northern Virginia, as I understand it, if the indemnitor doesn't come up with all or some of the premium on the bond they RA locks the defendant back up... I can't figure out how they manage this without some sort of repercussion but it does in fact occur.

Our industry is filled with licensed bondsmen and Recovery agents that even though legally licensed, still bend and break the laws and apparently do it with immunity... illegal practices takes many avenues and I guess all we can do is try and be honest and up front with our personal organizations and actions.

When an individuals business begins to falter, whether it be from economic, political or personal reasons, the persons involved in the business will unfortunately begin to do things that drag them deeper and deeper into activities that are initially just shady and then over time become downright illegal. Often times these folks stay under the radar and continue to operate with apparent immunity. We all know of persons and organizations that fit this profile. What to do about it is apparently above my pay grade. Someone much wiser than I will have to attempt a fix on this problem.

Quick story related... yesterday I wrote a small bond on a girl out of Richmond who was stopped on her way to a family funeral... she had an outstanding warrant for FTR (failure to return a rented car on time) the only indemnitors were from Maryland and I told the family I needed someone that owned property in Virginia or at least a large amount of cash for collateral... her grandfather surfaced, owned a nice farm locally and came in to sign for her... they don't hold females in the local jail she was in and LE was going to transport her to another jail... I spoke to the grandfather (and determined that he was ok) and told him that I was going to go ahead and get this girl out BEFORE the family got to the jail... since if we had waited she would then be 50 miles away... anyway, after I bonded her, the family showed up and there were a large number of pretty rough looking "dudes" with the grandfather... they filled out the forms, paid the money and after all was over made the following statement to me... grandfather said: "Mr. Marx, I sincerely appreciate you getting my grand daughter out before we could get over here... you are not the run of the mill bondsman and I will remember this action and anytime anyone I know needs these services, you may rest assured you will be the one I recommend." The girls brother, one of the rough looking "dudes" said to me: "Mr. Bill (sometimes they call me that) I am from Baltimore and I can tell you, bondsman up there are not like you... you really helped us in a timely manner and it makes me think there are still some good businessmen out there."

I just told them that I tried to treat everyone the same and although I had been burned in the past, I still figured there was good in everyone and I was just doing my job. These types of statements, coming from our customers really make us feel that we are providing a service and made me feel very good.

I guess what I am saying here is that we cannot control the actions of the ones in our business that want to operate outside the rules, we can only control our own actions and try and make sure that we do the right things and stay as up front as possible and in that small way, we may be able to show the general public that .... there are still some of us out here that try to do it right and treat the public in a fair manner.

Sorry to get so long winded here... just wanted to get this out.

it may have been long winded but as usual it was very informative.I just cant understand how a bea from another bonding company can pick someone up without the warrant from the original bondsman and than bond them out with there own bonding company.I believe you are right though, must be well above my pay grade as well.
i guess the original bondsman doesnt really lose out on their money but they do lose out on the rebond if in fact they would want to bond out that person for a second time.

So it sounds like, the recovery guys are going through the forfeitures at the court house and going out on their own to pick up the skips.

Once they have them, they surrender them to the jail and tell them to bail out with their own company.

Do I have this correct?

As far as the jail is concerned, they see the bench warrant and accept the skip into custody. They could care less which recovery guy picked them up.

Is it legal? Depends on the laws in that particular state.

It is a shady deal all around.

I have only re-bonded once that I can recall... and that one bit me in the azz... which taught me a valuable lesson. As a practice, if I lock up a skip I will not re-bond, however, if one of my defendants gets picked up on another charge and is bondable, I of course will write that.

There is a rumor about a fairly well known company in northern Virginia, which I will not name, that bonds defendants without any money authorization from anyone... takes them to their family or whomever... and demands the premium... if the premium or a suitable deal is not worked out, they put the defendant back in jail on a bail piece... since the company is a property bond organization there is nothing lost here... no premium to pay... only leg work which apparently seems to be paying off... I have had several other bondsman tell me this in confidence and I will say that I only have their word on this so it is not first hand from me... but I believe it is in fact a practice that has taken place.

I am not naming a company or pointing a finger, I am putting this info out here for general info only and telling you up front it is second hand info. Please verify and check this out for yourself if you are a licensed Virginia bondsman. I have not run into this practice in my AO although I have my own devils to deal with here. There are quite enough shady characters in our business to go around, unfortunately.

I will say that there are bondsman that I do know, who spring defendants with NO MONEY at all... and then cut the price of the bond. I have run into this several times lately.

There is no way a straight forward bondsman can compete on this level.

Thank you for your info tsuggs and speez i agree with the not being able to compete in this business.Especially bonding,we have a few companies here also that have done bonds for no money down and half off the total. There is even one that has it right in the name of his company,he will wear his company name on his shirts everywere he goes EXCEPT to recertification or tapba for fear of other bondsmen ridiculing him for his practice i assume.I believe there is plenty to go round so why pit ourselves against each other? but i guess thats just business might not like it but theres always going to be somebody trying to be a cut throat in my opinion.
