Here are new laws that just went in for Michigan:

Camel Gets Nose Under Tent in Michigan
Post Conviction Bond Gets Approval

Michigan's Governor Jennifer Granholm signed HB 4437 on October 1, 2009 which included a provision for a post conviction bond. Michigan bail agents and their representatives did an excellent job getting a post conviction bond passed into law. There is still work to be done to refine the statutory language and provisions. For instances, although the bond is for appearance only the bail agent is only allowed 72 hours to recover the defendant after a failure to appear. This is a tall order and needs to be increased to a more reasonable time period of thirty days or more.

There is more work to be done here to ensure a post conviction bond in Michigan remains in effect. Due to the efforts of the Michigan bail agents, at least for now, they will be working from inside the tent.

HB 4437 - Post Conviction Bond Provision

Michigan Bail Enforcement Regulation Bill

We were discussing this at the last meeting. The laws should pass soon.

So if HB 5493 go's into affect all FRA will need to be licensed in the state of MI? Is there a way to get licensed before the law takes affect?

Johnny.

straycatfra, I am confused. HB 5536 makes a lot of reference to "Bail Bond Agents". Is this the bondsman or the FRA?
