They covered this topic during the GAPB conference in May and wanted to hear some of the pros and cons to the use of such devices. I've heard horror stories regarding failures in part by the monitoring companies and not informing their clients fast enough to a potential violation. Also, have any of you heard about laws regarding the implementation of such devices in lieu of bonds? Have any of you had any experience, good or bad, with such devices?

We have had some discussion on this before but, for general public intrest...

As far as the Bonding Industry goes, it will kill this industry. If all a judge has to do is strap a monitor to a defendant.....there is no use for Bail.

When it comes to being a monitoring company, I see great incomes. I also see many problems, such as current and accurate monitoring. I had a friend that was "strapped up" once. He could cut his grass and have people show up looking for him (because the braclet went off). He could also go to a club at 10pm and be gone until 4am and no one ever questioned it.

Last, as far as using them by bonding companies......maybe. I don't have any particulars to base an opinion on but the first thing that pops to mind is "Rights". The way people are, now days, I see folks sueing over Constitional Rights or something. But I also see it being a great benefit to bondsmen but being a detroment to Recovery Agents.

I remember you talking to me about that. Maybe we can blame it on Windows Vista instead of operator error or a sudden lack of common-sense.

there is a half assed bondsman around here trying to sell those things. not cost effective for us, or the courts. the cost breakdown is as far as i got before tuning him out. he rattled on a while but i was working on something that mattered while he rambled on.

Can you get the cost breakdown on here or PM me that? I'd be interested in seeing how much those damn things cost and maintaining/monitoring fees.

If it's too much headache don't worry about it, I was just curious. I couldn't allow someone to suffer at the urging of my curiosity...although I could send you some damn good earplugs!

I know of a lady that just got one.....Although I don't know the cost of buying them I do know that she is charged $40 a month and $10 per day with an up front payment of $230. Sounds like plenty of good income but the headache of monitoring and maintaining......ewwwww.
