OK.... got the word from the general... I have permission to go with 'Rolling Thunder"... If all goes as planned, I will be pulling out of Lunenburg county (southside VA) around 7am.... Sunday... it is about 175 miles to DC... I suppose I will be seeing a lot of other bikers on the way up, especially when I hit I-85 and then I-95 north of Richmond... my old back and knees will give me a fit but I am gonna do this... I will be on my '04 Low Rider... dark blue bike... I will have on leathers with a vest over a jacket... American flag on the back... black helmet... which probably describes about three quarters of the bikers riding north that day.... but.... I figure I should get to the Pentagon parking lot around 11 or so.... although I will not be able to receive (or hear) calls on the cell while riding... leave me a message and when I turn it on I will get them... my cell is 434-294-0222... I will also (after dismounting) have on a "Marine Corps-veteran" black cap while walking around... I am 6'1" 295... big old guy with a grey beard, glasses.

This is about what you can expect/ I will have a small luggage rack on the back with a bag:
Image

If your going... just call me and leave a message about where you are, or may be... we might get together for a bit... I will not stay long however.... I should probably be coming back south around 6 or 7pm at the latest.

Hope to see anyone there that can make it.

Royal Navy, myself. Did a four year service from 98 to 02.
OM1(TSM) in SSM, then OM1(AW) in Warfare Branch Surface Flotilla. I didn't hit any warzones, mainly just some service in Ireland, then deployment to the Carribean for CD Ops, amongst other things. Spent about a year and a half in the Submarine Service too.

Diana and i went a couple of years back.although it brought back some good memories it brought back so many bad ones. I will not go again. Memorial Day is not one of my better days of the year.

(All you have to do is make it out of here and the rest of your life gravy)

Enjoy your ride and be safe.

Bill,
Call me on my cell, 301-674-1607. We are going, always do. You don't want to go to the Pentagon, you will never get out of there, ride straight up to Independence Ave, park against a curb and enjoy the show, there will be so many bikes, as far as one can see in either direction. They start filing into the Pentagon at 0 dark 30 and will keep coming in past 1PM. They will fill the entire parking lot, handle bar to handle bar, and around 11am, they will start the ride to the wall, and you may be in the parking lot for several hours before it finally gets to you. By the end of the day, you will be beat. Bring water, lots of water!

Scott

Scott, that's what dad does, except he starts on the Lincoln Monument (I think thats what he said; isn't that what faces the reflecting pool?). Oh, and he was at the Wall when Clinton dropped by (several years ago)....heard that was a site to see  .

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted it.... I think I am going to try and ride up Saturday AM.... not sure when I can leave home.... maybe leave around 9am... probably won't get up to DC till mid Sat. afternoon?? ... no definite plans.... but I guess I will try and find a motel or something Sat. PM... may have to stop around Fredericksburg to find something... not sure now what the plan is... I have to go to a graduation ceremony for my grandson Friday am and then home Friday PM.... Saturday is a toss up... I thought about riding to and staying with my daughter in Culpeper Sat. nite and riding up very early Sunday am.... I just have to see but you are certainly right that it is a mad house from the Pentagon... I will not do that... will try to get up close to the wall and park... my old knees will not allow me to walk too far without a sit down somewhere but I can get around fairly good after a bit of rest...

Scott I plan on calling you and also Sno's Dad sometime Sunday or maybe even Saturday if I am in DC... just have to see what happens. My cell will be forwarded to my home for the next couple of days... then to me after I leave. I am sure we will meet up sometime this weekend.
