The Atlanta deal was a hoax..1 person started a rumour of running out, so people panicked. That has already been announced on the news.

We have 2 pipelines that run right through here, as well as tankers running from Birmingham. We have been assured by our city leaders that Huntsville is ok.

I have already offered to Houndog to transport gas to him if he needs it by meeting in Memphis, Tn.

I have a 6 cylinder p/u truck, and I can load it with 5 gallon jerry cans of gas and transport it anywhere I need to.

I caught a news segment where Geraldo Rivera and Shepherd Smith, who were reporting live, wherein they emotionally stated that people in their visual area were not getting what they needed, AND they both reported that people were not being permitted to leave!

After waiting several days for help, people may be too weak to make the trek, but is this right? How can people in complete crisis be kept from leaving?

Is there some other factor to this?

All this has hit me pretty hard as i have family that lived there. I also lived there for 20 years before i moved back here to be with my mother as my father passed away in 1998. I don't know who dropped the ball here but there was no reason for people to be dieing from no water or food. We can send billions of dollars everywhere else to buy countries friendship. There is no excuse that anyone could come up with to why this has happened and smooth things over. If we could not rally for this just think about how prepared we are if we had a biological or nuke attack.
Makes one stop and wonder. As a side note all my family is safe and here in Indiana. Everyone that knows me knows i shoot from the hip and i do not sugar- coat anything its all black & White. "WE DROPPED THE BALL ON ARE OWN PEOPLE"

Hola Tim,
I have to agree as to the looting of things other than food or water. It is sad that a disaster also brings out the crime element. I also know that stealing food or water is not right but if my family was starving and dehydrated i would most probably have done the same thing being put in this position. And i would hope God would forgive me for doing such.

Here in Northern DE it is hard to find a gas station with gas. As of last night there were people getting into fights about who was going to get gas at the stations because they were running out so fast. RT 40 which is a main strip in delaware has a large number of gas stations closed due to this crisis!

I hope it works it self out soon this is crazy!

What is the greater crime ?..stealing food and water from a destroyed grocery store that will be covered by disaster relief funds or insurance or the crime of allowing people to thirst and starve to death ?

Any reasonable human being will do whatever it takes to survive under any circumstances. Examine ourselves for a moment...we put ourselves in harm's way 24/7; we are prepared to survive whatever may come of our hunting of our fellow mankind.

There have also been reports of armed gangs roving the streets, raping, pillaging, plundering as in medieval times. Additionally, they are also allegedly shooting at medevacs...thereby keeping them grounded or at bay from areas that need them.

I just had a visit from an HPD EOD officer and he related stories of New Orleans, PD officers walking off the job down there because of frustration. He stated that app 80% of New Orleans, PD is gone. He further stated that they were given impossible orders : 1) They could not shoot looters 2) They could not return fire if fired upon by armed citizens.

Another item he related is the fact of sharks are now inside New Orleans, swimming and feeding on all of the bodies, both human and animal.

It is almost unfathomable to think such death, devastation, and total chaos could occur here in the U.S.A.

All of this is incredible but nevertheless reality when things go so very bad.

Roving gangs, sharks, fights at gas pumps, the most powerful nation in modern history--if not ever--capable of getting help across vast stretches of ocean quickly, and people here in our own Country dying of starvation, dehydration, and left waiting for days while the lawless have at it?

I am beside myself.

I do not think anyone was questioning the people taking items for survival. I believe the looting and crimes being described probably refered to breaking into, appiance stores, jewelry stores, gun stores and the like. I do not think that a rolex watch, television set or an AK-47 would be described as for survival but more of the criminal element.

No one would question the taking of food and sustinance from destroyed stores for survival but, I would question the ones stealing firearms and other items so that they could rape, murder, hold hostage and destroy what little was left in the devastated cities.
