I have noted something that prevails this site regularly... something that, for me, at least... is irritating... and frankly makes a terrible first impression from a business standpoint.
... and that is............. the murdering of the English language.
The written word as portrayed in a post, email, newspaper editorial... or any other manner... IMHO... should be done in as proper and correct a manner as is available to the author.
On a daily basis, this website is visited and posted to by all types of people and although I understand that everyone is not endowed with the same functional vocabulary... there are so many "help sites" as in online dictionaries... online spell checkers... online punctuation (I suffer from the....."dot"......... abnormality myself!) online grammatically correct sites that can help you put into writing what you have in mind... there is no real reason that I can see that a person cannot communicate in a manner that would easily allow the reader to understand what the author is trying to say....
... and I think many times members on FRN have tried to point this out to all the newbies that are seeking information on entering this business... in as easy a manner as possible.
I can tell you folks that it is unbelievably important to put your words on paper... or whatever medium you choose... in a manner that is as correct in spelling and grammar as you can possibly make it... compose your thoughts, read them over and try to make sure that you have said what you want to say... in as simple and concise manner as possible... run spell checker and then read your post again if needed... several times over to just make sure that you come off looking halfway intelligent... (many times I will compose a post or email in a "Word" program that corrects mistakes automatically before I actually place it in an email or thread)
The posting program here on FRN reflects misspelled words with a red underline that you can "right click" on and it will show you correct spellings or different words for you to replace the mistake... I mean... you people honestly didn't think I was smart enough to not misspell words now and then............ did you?
What I am trying to tell you is that "how" you put something on paper (or whatever) is at least as important as "what" you say.
Trust me on this.... I sometimes lose the train of thought when I am reading an otherwise interesting post... because I am paying attention to the way the person is misspelling every other word or not putting sentences together in a way that is easily understood...
I may ramble somewhat here but I can tell you ........... it is important.

I have been told about the "correction" program several times but for some reason....I don't have it. I must cut and paste to Microsoft Word and back to the forum to use a spell and grammar checker. I guess that is the reason why I typically don't. I feel it is to much work.....I won't even change a mistake, even if I see it, after I hit submit. Clicking "edit", changing the mistake, submitting it again....to much work. I figure so long as it can be figured...its good. I will attempt to do better, Bill.

I am all good on the misspells . . . as I get in a bit of a hurry at times What I have a problem with is the abbreviations used by those that are 'chatroom' savy. I feel that that type of communication belongs there, not here on this Forum. Call me oldfashioned. I don't want to have to have a freakin decoder to read someones' post. Surely I can't be the only one . . . I thought that I had seen a 'spellchek" on here (it is on another forum) so I downloaded the 'google' toolbar. Those of you that have spoken with me know how I talk. I promise to try and get more highhorsed . . . Uhm . . . nope changed me mind

... actually what I was more or less referring to was the way many of the newbies jump in here and ask for professional help but do it in a very unprofessional manner and with an intro that is almost unreadable.... If I get an email from someone presenting themselves like that............... I just delete it............ period... "if they can't talk, they gotta walk"............ hows that fer street sht.

Bill, I agree 100%! No proper introduction and some just jump right to a question and you don't quite know what there point is.
