You know how you can put jewelry and/or other stuff in a liquid that 'vibrates' and cleans the material? Well, does anyone know of a product or something similar that you can put gun metal parts into and clean them up... I know you can clean metal engine parts in something like that but I would like to clean up some antique weapons like this if possible... I don't want to "scrub" or mare the finish, nor do I want to re blue the finish... just clean them up without really harming the present finish... like remove surface rust without scratching and also to clean up the bore... I can clean them with Hoppies 9 or some other bore cleaner and all the other commercial stuff but I was wondering about a "wash" of some sort for overall cleansing...

Bill...I'd be careful....The guys put mine in an ultrasound cleaning machine and it took the blueing right off...
Good thing that HK fell apart...literally, a few months later..I got it replaced and now clean it by hand..Hoppes #9 Powder Cleaner(it's really a liquid) Works wonders...

That's exactly what I wanted.... good input... I was afraid of that... I have used that Hoppies #9 for 50 years.... it and a few newer cleaners work wonders... I just wanted to restore these great old guns to their former glory without removing anything of the bluing... thanks. You say your HK fell apart!!!??? whew.... never had any of mine do that but then I don't own an HK of any persuasion... I'm a Ruger, Beretta, Springfield Armory, Colt, SW kind of guy.... but there are some newer companies out there now that are not bad... and believe it or not.... one of the best shooters I have is a Taurus 9mm.... Beretta look alike....

Bill,
I've had a Tausus PT99 and a Ruger P89 for years. Both have been completely reliable and accurate. Back in the day I was a deputy, we carried revolvers. Had one deputy that looked just like Barney Fife! Back then I carried a Colt Python 357. Still have that one too and love it!

The trigger pin came loose..I was supposed to shoot that day; good thing I didn't. Every small piece came apart and dropped thru the mag space onto the floor...bad scene.
It was under warranty, so I took it back to where I originally bought it and being friends wth the owner,
had a replacement for me the same day...no other problems since...shoots real good...

Bill, I wouldn't try an ultrasonic cleaner with an antique...but I could be wrong. I have a Colt SAA made in 1894 and only hand clean it. We had an ultrasonic at the P.D. and it worked fine on my stainless S&W .357 and Colt .45 auto, but...a couple of Glocks jammed after being put in the lube bath, only time I've ever seen a Glock malfunction. They think they traced the jams to the lube being too thick on the guide rod. And I have a lot of respect for the combat tupperware; after a little shooting incident my partner was cleaning his Glock and found a very small pinhead sized pebble inside from where he had dove into a gravel driveway when the balloon went up to get out of the line of fire. He later fired about 10 rounds from the Glock at the guy and I dumped 6 rounds from my .45. Apparently the pebble got in between the small space between the slide and frame at the slide hold-open slot. I'll never forget that Glock working with a rock inside.  I'd ask someone experienced in antiques...like maybe go to the NRA website, or might try the curios and relics section on this site: http://www.thefirearmsforum.com/

I really want to get these great weapons in good shape but not re blue.... leaving the finish alone... just a good cleaning...
