This ain't Betty Crocker and I don't usually do bread or cookies... however... this stuff is DAMN GOOD and I have actually made it... and if you make it... you will not have to mail it back and forth like the other cake your talking about.... give it a try... it is really good stuff and goes great anytime but especially now... with a little EGGNOG with a little.... you know...

“AMISH CINNAMON BREAD”
Make a copy of these instructions before you start writing on them!

STARTING FROM SCRATCH: MIX 1 CUP OF MILK, 1 CUP OF SUGAR, 1 CUP OF ALL PURPOSE FLOUR, THEN PUT IT IN A PLASTIC GALLON FREEZER BAG AND DO THE FOLLOWING

Put this mixture on the kitchen counter till tomorrow, then… do as instructed… this mixture will ferment over the next few days… it’s ok… don’t puke… it really works and tastes great…

DAY 1: Squeeze the bag several times

DAY 2: Squeeze the bag several times

DAY 3: Squeeze the bag several times

DAY 4: Squeeze the bag several times

DAY 5: Squeeze the bag several times

DAY 6: Add 1 cup of all purpose flour, 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of milk to the bag, mix it up and squeeze the bag several times. (At this point you will have 4 cups of the mixture.)

DAY 7: Squeeze the bag several times

DAY 8: Squeeze the bag several times

DAY 9: Squeeze the bag several times

DAY 10: In a large non-metallic bowl, combine the starter with 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk. Mix with a wooden or plastic spoon. Pour 1 cup each of this liquid into 4 different 1 gallon zip lock bags and give to your friends with a copy of these instructions.

(After doing this, you will have approx. 3 cups of liquid remaining for your bread and 4 bags containing 1 cup each to give to your friends… are you confused yet??)

To the remaining mixture add the following:

1 cup canola oil
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 large eggs
½ cup of milk
2 small boxes of instant French Vanilla pudding mix
2 cups of all purpose flour (I used self rising and it didn’t seem to matter)
1 ½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. salt
CHOPPED NUTS AND/OR RAISINS (OPTIONAL) This adds a lot to the bread!!

In a separate bowl, mix 1 tbsp. cinnamon, 3 tbsp. sugar, stir together, sprinkle lightly into several well greased (I used PAM spray) loaf pans or bunt pans and then pour in the batter filling a little over half way. Bake at 325 for about an hour or until a tooth pick pulls out clean.

Remember, DO NOT REFRIGERATE THE MIXTURE. As it ferments let the air out of the bag. It is normal for the batter to thicken, bubble and ferment.

Day 11: Squeeze your husband, wife, dog or cat several times… this won’t help the bread but it should liven up the afternoon.

slight correction:

On day 6, you will have 6 cups rather than the posted 4... no problem.

On day 10, you will have 5 cups rather than the posted 3... no problem... just more "stuff" for you to give away....

... are you confused yet?

Listen... I told you I ain't Betty Crocker... well, I ain't Albert Einstein either... I got a C in arithmetic... yeah, I know Steve F. said "what is arithmetic?"

Does that mean I have to plan 10 days ahead for the housewarming party just so I can make the bread???

Just so there is NO confusion on the above statement, Chris and I are meeting with our realtor this week and at some point, the builder...we will be building our first home hopefully in March when the ground starts to thaw...thought I'd let everyone in on the news....

Congrats Angela,
Put draws into escrow with absolute requirements for progress to access funds. Make the builder buy a performance bond so that if he flakes out and takes off, you are not exposed. With hold 20% to be paid 60 days after you occupy the dwelling to make sure that your final punch list is corrected in a timely manner. You don't want to have a paid off builder with no motivation to come back to fix stuff. Do your homework on licenses, complaints etc.

This can be the happiest time of your life or the worst, remember that you are in control.

Scott
