Unfortunately in AL, all you need is DL and a pistol permit to do Recovery work. And that's only if you're driving and even have a pistol. lol

We are currently working on changing this. Mindtracker has more info.

Rex -
If ref to California CCW, they are not resprical with any other state as you mentioned and they will not issue non-resident permits. Meaning if you do not live in CA you have no chance of carrying a gun there!

As far as getting a permit if you are a resident, I understand that the ease of obtaining a permit varies from county to county. Check out this link for counties in CA that will almost always issue as long as you meet the state criteria. http://www.packing.org./state/index.jsp/california.

For everyone.... http://www.packing.org is a great reference location for gun laws from state to state. They do a great job of updating the site to stay current. They also can tell you what you need to do to obtain a permit in different states if it is at all possible. Check them out!

Rex:

I do not know the answer to your question.; Yes, it is fair to make the assumption that regarding bounty hunting, a reciprocal ccw is not recognized under Ga. Law.

My guess is this: if you sign a contract with someone who is traveling, say from La, to Atl, which is feasible due to all of the relationships with movies and music, but both yourself and your client are residents in Cali, then you are governed by Cali law and standards. I would, and I know you would as well, coordinate with ATL PD prior to going there and request a 30 day non-resident temp permit (Yes we do issue those in the south).

If you are going to Ga to seek employment on a temp basis I would seek the same remedy. Most everyone knows that Cali has some of the highest standards, not just in the BEA field, but the LEA world as well.

FYI: Alabama ranks equal to Cali in LEO P.O.S.T certification. Only an Alabama certified officer can do an equal and lateral transfer into a Cali unit.

If you need further clarification I would recommend contacting the Ga. Attorney General's office.

BECPA,

The straight and simple answer to your question is this: NO. LOL. Unfortunately, we have no requirements or regulations AT THIS TIME.

Myself, and some others are in the process of attempting to change this. For the Alabama Criminal Code visit this website:

http://www.legislature.state.al.us/Code ... coatoc.htm

Title15 deals with bail for our state.
The only thing that out of state trackers need to be aware of is this: Under Alabama's agreement/participation with UCEA, the state requires that any tracker attempting to aprrehend a fugitive here must have in thier possession at the time of the apprehension a CERTIFIED ORIGINAL COPY OF THE WARRANT, BAIL PIECE, BONDSMAN'S PROCESS, ETC. Not a photocopy, but the original.

Additionally, all of our LEA's REQUEST (not legally required), to check in with them before going to a fugitive's location. Our LEO's simply want thier badges and jurisdictions respected. That's it. Based on all of my experiences so far, everytime I have checked in with the local LEA, they have sent someone out with me.

It's the only way to go. It's professional, it's smart, and it earns you thier respect.

If you have any further questions feel free to call.

Other than the requirement in Indiana to be Licensed IN and BY Indiana in order to operate (a lot of out of state people come in and don't really realize that but oh well)... you don't have to notify local law enforcement either... but it is a good idea to do so.

I was checking out a lead recently in Terra Haute and checked in with the local PD as a courtesy and got a story from the shift commander about some group out of Indianapolis which came in with shotguns and threw a guy in their van... took them almost 3 hours to figure out it was a bail agency as no one called them and they were running around looking for "kidnappers" (apparently neighbors or some such called the police). He was pretty irritated about all the time wasted by his officers on that one.

In my area, Huntsville, I do ok..you know the drill-feast or famine. Your family could probably better advise you for the Florence area better than I could.

I would do all of the market research stuff: demographics, per capita income, market strengths, market saturations, divorce rate for that county and surrounding areas, etc.

My "season" for divorces is typically from after Valentine's day to just before Thanksgiving. Families typically stick it out during the holidays, and women hang on until after Valentine's then file for divorce.

The avg market rate here is $50.00-$75.00/man hour for investigations; $35.00 for local civil service process; $100.00/man hour for EP details.

I don't know that Florence has the economy to support those rates or not. But if I may be of service to you in any way please feel free to call upon me. I help anyone I can.

Here in Missouri the Department of Insurance refers to us as Surety Recovery Agents so thats what I call myself. We are also trained and licesned by them so its not some rambo camp trainning us. We are also tested before we are licensed.
