LOL, that goes for most anywhere today. We have evolved into a "non-thinking" society where we rely on machines to do everything for us. Modern machines are all computerized, and computers are consistently updated to make it easier for the most "simple minded" to operate them, and it is getting worse all the time. There is a big difference in knowing "how" and knowing "why" that most of the new generation have no clue about.
Hey, I use my computer and the internet for everything. My issue is that as generations come about, they aren't taught anything but how to log in and have no real clue what they are doing or why they are doing it. They think they know it all, and refuse to listen, another product of that generation. My stepson is a prime example as he deleted several Windows files from one of my work computers while I was telling him not to. Thankfully it only cost me $100 to get the computer back working, but I haven't managed to recoup the work yet. Recreating that is much worse, and I am the bad person because I got pissed off because he ignored me and did what I told him not to.
IDK about our world today. No matter what a person does, it is always somebody else's fault. Nobody wants to take blame for their actions, because that is what they have been taught. The future is very scary!

Here is another example of this:
I recently re-entered the military, as a few of you know. 14 years ago, when I left, there was such a thing as respect and honor amongst all service men and women. I am now finding that society has taught the younger generations that "Rank and/or experience doesn't factor into your day." I am watching a conversation on the Army Knowledge forum where a E-5 is TELLING a E-9 and a CW-2 (for those that aren't military, these two severely out rank him) to "push their fat butts out from behind their desks and do something to him, if they aren't cowards". He even went as far as to tell the Warrant Officer that he didn't care about rank, he will not bow down to anyone "that disrespects" him. Well, the first thing that gets me is, these two only let him know that he was wrong on a subject that he "knew about". Then to see a few others (all junior enlisted) backing the Sgt.... WTF. Only 14 years ago, this guy would have been on the chopping block....actually, he probably would have kept his opinion to himself but if not then someone would be acting. I guess the way to look at it is "The military can't remove 18 or more years of learning from society with the 8 to 16 weeks of basic training, they provide." Just goes to show, there are idiots everywhere.

I am now finding that society has taught the younger generations that "Rank and/or experience doesn't factor into your day." If you think there is a difference today.......... compared to 14 years ago............. SnoWolf.... I was a lowly... E-3 (Lance Corporal) in the good ole Marine Corps.... I went through MCRD-Parris Island, SC in August of 1961... I won't even elaborate... but suffice to say.... physical and verbal abuse was wide open.... I neither approve or disapprove of the actions of my DI's at PI.... but I honestly believe it is a necessary "passage" military personnel must go through in order to become what they must..... it ain't a fraternity at UNC.... it is preperation for war... fighting and killing if necessary and you are either prepared or you die... and even being prepared will not always save you, but when the boots start telling the brass how they are to be treated..... there is no coming back.... after leaving the Marines after my tour... I went back to Quanitco, Va. and walked into a training facility and met my old DI.... who in '61 was a Staff Sgt.... he was now, in '64 a Captain... he was a Mustang from the word go, got a field commission after everyone above him was killed over a period of time and he was thrust into his present role... he pulled 3 tours in Nam and was a salty ole guy that knew how the Corps was changing and we had a long discussion of how it was going to hell in the handbasket.... No responsibility and no respect......... I don't know SnoWolf, where it is going but it has to change. We have to stop the course that is in place... I of course am not in a position to do anything but write these posts and observe. Respect has to be in place from the Generals down to the Privates... I just had to comment on what I have been observing for years in the military.... I don't believe a DI can even "cuss" at the recruits now... they will be called on the carpet and the boots have all the control as I understand it........... just the opposite of the way it should be................... "How can a student learn when he is in control of the curriculum... ?"

Right...but at the same time, you have E-1s, 2s, and 3s telling a Sargent Major "....If you have the courage to push your fat, no PTing *butt* out from behind your desk....you know where to find me. If not Shut the F*** up and stop with the empty threats." This is rediculous. The junior enlisted shouldn't even have a thought that he can get away with this... and the SGM. should have been on the phone before the sentence was complete... OH, but the guy doing all the talking is in the 82nd Airbourne...he is Special Forc...I won't even write that cause he is acting like he's Special Ed. Special Ops should understand the correct way, even more than the standard guys. They used to have honor and respect beat into them..... now thet, along with most, just do what they want.
For example, here is some of the junior enlisted words to senior enlisted and officers: "Maybe you should mind your own business and read all the post before you open your big mouth cadet" to a Master Sergent
"Please for god's sake don't let me run into you overseas because if you think I'm going to cower down like you thought I would on the computer.... bring it. You wouldn't last 2 minutes." to a Warrant Officer 2
"Since you want to jump on board this cowardly attack. I guess you are going to tell me how to lead too? How about this.... piss off." to a Captain
I have posted a bit of wisdom (although it is only my opinion and experience) on the boards where this is happening. I didn't call anybody anything but I alluded to "name calling". I just gave advise and a lesson on respecting seniors and honoring themself, in doing so... it may have worked because no one has posted a rebut in hours (11 Sep 2008 08:31 GMT ).

Quote: You always hear about the "good ole days" well, they really were.... there was an innocence that existed that is no where to be found in today's world.............. I don't know if you guys will be able to refer to your youth as the "good ole days"... frankly I hope you can.... fond memories are something that sustains you as you age Im always late on these threads.... Ive actually thought about this alot over time. I do refer to my youth as the good ole days, in some respects. Even though it was 20 yrs later than Bill. Im sure my kids will refer to now as the good ole days. I dont think it has as much to do with the times or economics as a state of mind and being carefree and having a good time. You know, being a kid. No real bills to pay. No real boss to pressure you. Lots of time for friends and the whole world and life is in front of you. Those are the good ole days...
