n CHESTER - Posing as a bounty hunter - complete with an ID, badge and gun - has a city man in trouble with the law again, police said.
Winston Scott, 46, had outstanding warrants for his arrest when he was spotted by police standing was outside of a car wash in the 800 block of Upland Street around 10 a.m. July 1, according to the affidavit of probable cause for his recent arrest.
As police were taking him into custody, he was asked if he had a gun in his possession.
"I was taking it to my sister," Scott allegedly replied.
A loaded, black and silver, semiautomatic 9 mm handgun was taken from Scott's belt, according to the affidavit. Scott also allegedly had a gold "Fugitive Recovery Agent" badge, as well as a Fugitive Enforcement Agent identification card with his name and photo on it in his possession.
Scott, 46, a convicted felon who served jail time for a manslaughter conviction back in 1994, was charged with firearm not to be carried without a license, false evidence of identity, impersonating a public servant and former convict not to possess a firearm.
He was remanded to 10 percent of $20,000 bail pending his preliminary hearing in Chester District Court.

This is right in my operating area. Scary thing is, where did he get all of his goodies? (badge/ID)
When things like this happens, it puts a black mark on our business. The headline itself,'Bounty hunter' nailed for gun, The guy probably just had the stuff on him, not actually working in the field (I HOPE) and it still gets printed as a blemish. Just what we don't need.

The bad thing..........in this matter anyway....about the internet is that people can obtain those forms of identification anywhere. One is ebay. They have listings to make up ids and some occasionally auction off some badges of that type.

elnegro pm was sent. Give me a call.

Well said, again just what we need in the press.

Any of those items (other than the firearm of course) can be purchased quite easily from a variety of sources. NIC, for instance, offers a wide variety of customizable badges and ID's and they don't actually verify whether anybody is licensed or not. $80 can get you a badge and accompanying photo ID in an official wallet.

The above comments are why we question anyone we do business with. Those that take offense, need to understand our position. I don't automatically question anyone, but if I want to do business with them, I will make sure they are legal to work in the area I need the work done in. It only makes sense to check out those you work with.

Kathy said it in a nutshell . . . it is what it is . . . and sometimes it is hard to discern  but together we figure it out
