Badges

Help me out guys i've always been told and have shyed away from badges with state seals on them and i know i've seen it on here that is a big no-no as bob burton and few others have preached but i was a uniform shop today that had badges for bounty hunter, bail enforcement and fugitive recover agent all with the state seal on them.

and when i inquired about them and why they have the state seal on them i was told the state lic. bounty hunters so i sale them to alot guys here. (FOr one Tennessee doesn't require lic.) but i know you guys are wizes at letting people know the laws pertaining to this. any help would be apprechiated one of the state people told me to find what i could and come see her, I know DOG got his order to hang up his CO. badge but need a lillte more than Do-Do to show up with for her any help guys?

In most states it’s allowed, but if you ask me I would say not a good idea! Too many problems! Just stick with the Customs or order a badge from Maxsell.com As for what to use on your Custom badge they have eagles and Stars!

If you are only doing local pick-ups and your state does allow for state seals, then you have no issue; However, if you do national pick ups then some states do prohibit us from displaying them. The best advice I have to offer is to design your own. There are several companies out there that you can custom order from. Also, using the "Marshall star" and Eagle can get you into trouble as well as having the word "Agent" anywhere on your apparell or badge. There are documented cases of trackers being charged with impersonation on these 2 items alone.

We carry and sell a generic badge that simply states "bail enforcement agent" as it coincides with Taylor vs Taintor. In that decision, the U.S. Supreme court referred to us as "Agents"..not the definition reserved for FBI,DEA, etc..but more along the lines as a bail bondsman's or surety's "representative". You have to remember words and definitions change over time and you have to look at the context the word "Agent" was used in during that era.
