I love it when Kathy, LuVonda, and BondgirlCT post during conflict. They make so much sense. They are the voice of reason. They make me feel like a comlete idiot when I have been in on the arguing :) . If only I could come up with some of the nice, polite, professional responses that they do....

Luv ya, ladies :D

I investigated this case and have worked on a case with all of the subjects charged in this case and some of the things that weren't reported in this news article.

1.Mark Beavers and Steve are both former law enforcement retired.
2.Law enforcement was contacted by Mr. Beavers before they left for SC and upon arrival in SC.
3.Mr. Beavers is still working in South Carolina and made an arrest with me within the last month there with out a hitch and the blessing of State and town police.
4.The local courts refused to issues warrants for the subjects in this case due to lack of evidence in the case and the conflicting statements made.
5.The S.L.E.D. Only took this case when a NAACP lawyer got involved trying to make this a racial issue.

Statements made by the civil complainants are contradicting from both legal statements as will as statements that were taken at the time of the legal complaint. This is a group of money hungry people that are living off or us tax payers and trying to get something for nothing.

Beavers Bail bonds and their agents are the most professional people I have ever worked with.

We all need to take notice with the things that are going on in our industry with no insurance for us available by any company we need to start fighting and helping fight this type of law suits that are going to in cress as story's start hitting new all over

Agreed... so what happened or is it still ongoing? I followed the link in LuVonda's post and got some info but did not see final results? I have a little story to tell related to SC pickup I did several years ago... will post later.

Figured this might be applicable to the thread…

I am a bondsman only… FR on my own skips only, so my experiences are not as broad as many others here and I offer only my personal advice… however…

Myself and two of my buddies… all licensed bondsmen with carry permits and years of service, went to Myrtle Beach, SC a couple of years ago to pick up a skip I had. We researched the carry laws and found exactly what you have said: “no resident, no carry” but we went anyway and we were after my skip so that part was fine. Upon arriving in MB I went straight to local LE and ask the procedure they might require for us to “legally” pick up a skip who had… among other things… a capias that was in NCI on another charge (I ask if they would assist since this guy had an NCI listing… and they said “not unless it gets out of hand…”) and our ‘bail piece’ with all the legal paperwork we were required to have. They looked at all we had and told us that we could not “legally carry firearms, concealed or open” (their wording) nothing said about other forms of SD… like mace. I ask the LE if we could “sit” on a couple of houses in the local neighborhood (good idea to let them know your vehicle so you don’t get ‘busted’ when some resident calls in on you as a “strange car sitting in the neighborhood… which has also happened to me) and observe during the nite and they said fine. We even got out and walked the street in one area... at least my buddies (they were my sons) did… I sat in the car with the doors locked and my hand on my “illegal 40”… I ain’t no fool. I am an old and wise former Marine who has been shot at and that “whizzing” sound past your ear is not pleasant… besides, they are young and much tougher than I and I am way past the ‘hero’ years.

One of the LE on duty that nite gave us his cell number and while we were parked in the back of a local church watching one particular house, he called us and even rode through the neighborhood a couple of times checking us. We were also “made” by several of the locals that figured we were cops… so we moved a couple of times… we were driving a new Black Impala SS with very dark windows… mmmmmmm, shuda been in a VW beetle (which I do own and is my usual vehicle)

I was impressed and quite satisfied with the local cooperation. We did not do anything “stupid” however, and although we did not get our man that nite… we got some good intel and we did catch our man later in another state.

Advice: Make slow and deliberate moves when entering another state on a pickup… while checking all local laws and getting a feel for the territory. Be courteous and “ask” for their procedures/rules relating to your reason for being there. I have found that generally you will get a decent reception although sometimes you won’t and on those occasions… just thank them, say nothing and leave quietly.

I will say, research the state before you go… homework is the best advice.

It has been my experience that small towns respond much better to bondsmen… big cities look upon us a little more as creating problems… in my opinion. Small town LE sometimes want to “get in on the action” and there is one in NC that the local chief actually gave me a key to the patrol room at the station if I had to get coffee late one nite while in his jurisdiction… a rather unusual deal but very much appreciated and if I have a skip in his county he wants me to call him so he can go in with us and in fact probably knows who and where the guy is anyway.

Contacting local LE is a good idea, I have tried it both ways and letting them know you are in the area on business is usually the best choice. One other thing... although there are certain similarities involved, "EACH STATE IS DIFFERENT" never assume anything.

But having said all this… I will repeat a statement my son in law (another outstanding bondsman) always makes… “No matter what, in this business, when you make a move for whatever reason… “you are rolling the dice”… anything can and will happen. Murphy’s Law applies.” Be prepared for the unexpected cause it will happen.

When I post one of these news articles I try to keep track of what the outcome is . . . unfortunately I don't think that News Papers like to post anything further if the case does not go anywhere. But on the other hand you know how much the media loves ripping us if they think that something is there.
The way that you lay it out it pretty much how it goes most places. Here in Arkansas IF we do not check in the wording is . . . "Shall be guilty of a Class D felony" . . . kinda makes one wonder where the due process went on that one :?
That is why we can never just take anything for granted . . . Always do the research on where you are going before you get there.
