I didn't know anything about this until tonight while just surfing the net. Scary that this could have passed and most of us pro-gun people wouldn't have known anything about it. To my knowledge it wasn't ever advertised, publicised, or made known on any kind of large scale.

No surprise, we all know why. Now of course, I will be contacting my federal lawmaker's to check on its status and to make sure they know where I stand.

Guess I better start keeping better tabs on what my Congress is doing.

Re-read the article. It's not in effect. It has only been introduced, co-sponsored, and referred to committee. The article states that bills very seldom ever make it out of committees.

The scary thing though is that all of this happened and I think that most of us didn't know anything about it.

The NRA was calling all its members in regards to this.

The Dems are determined to turn the U.S. into a Socialist or Communist country. They are doing this slowly but surely. Steadily take away rights, but do it in such a way that the Sheeple think it is for their safety, security, and in their best interests. Promise them that you will take care of their needs so that they give up their rights to make educated decisions. Finally, take away their ability to fight back. The best way to prevent a revolution is to disarm the citizens.

The average person does not understand that in a true Democracy the government controls everything. There are no freedoms other than those granted by the government. Those who want this claim that the U.S. was founded on a democratic form of government. People need to research and understand that it was the total opposite. The direction our country is headed in is very scary, but sadly most won't stand up and fight to get back to the original beliefs, rights, and intention of our forefathers.

In DC, the murder rate is high and climbing. The police chief was before the city council having to explain it...Then this morning, I see a talk show discussing it and they were talking about the problem being guns on the street. DC has had an absolute gun ban for over 20 years. It does not work, as evidenced by the past 20 years. If armed citizens, law abiding ones, can protect their homes, this will stop. If not, as evidenced by history, the criminals and law enforcement will be the armed ones, the remainder are called victims or potential victims.

Mayor Fenty has done a great job so far, especially with the schools. If the children start to understand that people do care about them, then hope begins to take root. If children do not learn this at the earliest levels, we the public reap the results. Words don't get the point across, heat and books in school will.

to snag a quote from the NRA mag . . . "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is . . . a good guy with a gun."
I have read a lot and have a loit more to read (my mags have kinda stacked up without the pages being turned . . . but biz and the weather are making it more convenient to read.

I don't know how many of you remember this but here goes. In the mid to late '80s, foreign tourist were being robbed at gun point in Florida.

The crooks were tracking them by their rental car ids, license plate frame, etc. Two from Britain were robbed and killed at a hwyway rest area.

After that the rental companies used smaller bar codes and mostly did away with the Hertz, etc lincense plate frames.

However, Florida also became a shall issue state for CCWs. Guess what the robbery rate went down.

Here in Oakland during the same time period, we had stop light bandits. They would rob mostly women stopped at red lights by opening the door, breaking a window and take their purse or wallet. There were a few robbies of women as they were walking into their homes late at night.

Well, one robber was not content with just taking a womans purse he hit and kicked her while she was on the ground.

She pulled out a handgun and shot and killed him. No charges were filed against her even though she did not have a CCW.

Over night the red light snatch and grabs stopped.

As far as I know, in every state that has passed a shall issue CCW law, there has not been any up tick in shootings by law abiding citizens with permits. From what I have read, the oppposite is true. Gun crime has gone down.

NRA: I am not a member of them thanks to LaPierre's letter of Infamy calling all law enforcement and government agents "Jack-booted Gestapo" agents. That 1 proclamation single handedly caused the greatest withdrawal of prominent members as well as national denunciation of the organization on national news.

Members who included at the time then President of the USA Ronald Reagan, the presiding chairman of the National Police chiefs Association, members of Congress, individual state legislators, down to local police officers in 1 fell swoop tendered thier resignations to the NRA all because of that 1 letter.

After the damage the NRA suffered from that national insult, LaPierre stepped down as thier spokesperson and the NRA engaged in a massive damage control pr effort to regain the ground it had lost. Later, they hired Charlton Heston to be thier face, with LaPierre still calling the shots in the background.

I have always said that I will not join or endorse an organization that so foolishly and unprofessionally attacked an entire industry (Law Enforcement) without provocation. The day I will consider joining is the day when LaPierre completely removes himself from the NRA; and the NRA issues a formal apology on national television to the entire crimnal justice industry.

Now we all know the NRA will do no such thing.

Yes, the NRA knows my opinion. Over the last 20 yrs, every time they call me soliciting, every time I purchase a firearm, etc etc. I get targeted for membership. Each time I tell them to call back when LaPierre has left them permanently.

Another by product of that fiasco was the founding and organization of other gun right associations whose members included some of the former NRA members.

While they are not as well known or big as the NRA, they do have legislator's ears. That's what counts.
