The owner of a bail bonds business that operated in Mesa and Tempe was indicted Tuesday on charges of fraud and theft.

Nicole Galbraith, 24, of Mesa is accused of improperly pocketing thousands of dollars she collected from clients of her business, Quick Bail Bonds, in an indictment obtained by the state Attorney General’s office.

Between August 2006 and December 2007, Galbraith accepted money from clients seeking to post bail for family or friends, according to court documents. However, in some instances she allegedly failed to post bail with the courts, or posted surety bonds instead of cash. The charges also allege Galbraith kept money that should have been returned to customers after bonds were released by the court.

Galbraith is charged with two counts of fraud, 10 counts of theft and one count of theft of means of transportation. If convicted of all charges, she faces up to 93 years in prison. She is scheduled to be arraigned on July 7 in Maricopa County Superior Court.

That is just great!
That Sheriff doesn't think too highly of BBA and BEAs anyways!

I personally think that it's less about lots of bad things happening lately, and more of a matter of us being aware of them happening. This industry, as well as our greater society, has always had dishonesty and fraud and scandal, but we are now able to share stories and information with more efficiency. Many bail bond companies have long been involved in devious activities but it seems to me that the change has been in whether everyone else knows about what's going on. With the ability to communicate electronically and network, I think we're in a position where we need to start being on our a-game and keeping an eye on ourselves and each other. Self-regulation is an important part of increasing the credibility of our industry. We can't just let ourselves and each other get away with ripping folks off and making each other look bad anymore.
