http://www.arkansasnews.com/archive/200 ... 41893.html Political Notebook: Boozman throws 'Dog' a bone Sunday, Apr 29, 2007 By Aaron Sadler Stephens Washington Bureau WASHINGTON - Bowing to wishes from "Dog" lovers back in Arkansas, Rep. John Boozman, R-Rogers, last week added his name to a letter asking Mexican officials to drop criminal charges against a Hawaii bounty hunter and star of a popular television series. Boozman said Duane "Dog" Chapman should not be extradited to Mexico to face trial related to his capture of a California man wanted on rape, drug and weapons counts. Chapman, his son, Leland, and Tim Chapman, are accused of "depravation of liberty" in Mexico, where they apprehended Max Factor heir Andrew Luster. They face four years in prison. Luster was on the FBI's most wanted list. The normally mild-mannered Boozman was quoted in a statement from his office that "Dog Chapman performed a service for women who were drugged and raped by a trust-fund beach bum." Boozman's spokesman, Ryan James, said the colorful phrase didn't actually come out of Boozman's mouth, but he signed off on the statement before it was sent to Arkansas media. Boozman has watched Chapman's show, "Dog: The Bounty Hunter" only a couple times, James said, but some of his staffers are fans of the show. "More importantly, we've gotten a few letters from people who think 'Dog' is getting a bum deal," James said. |
