US bounhttp://www.news.com.au/story/0,2359 ... ,00.htmlty hunters want MokbelBy Kelvin Healey May 06, 2007 01:00am Article from: Sunday Herald SunFont size: + - Send this article: Print Email TWO world-famous US bounty hunters have added Australian gangland crime czar Tony Mokbel to their most-wanted list. Duane "Dog" Chapman and Leonard Padilla have expressed their keen interest in nabbing Mokbel and claiming the $1 million bounty on his head. Padilla said catching Mokbel would be "a piece of cake" and has implored the Australian Government to hire him to the hunt. A spokesman for the Hawaii-based Chapman confirmed the fugitive specialist, who stars in his own reality TV hit, Dog. The Bounty Hunter, was also interested in the challenge. Chapman, a former convict-cum-Christian, boasts of having nabbed 6000 fugitives, and attempts to motivate his captives to turn their lives around. Mr Padilla, also a larger-than-life character who stars in a National Geographic Channel documentary, said hiring private bounty hunters would be the most cost-effective way of tracking down Mokbel. Mokbel vanished in March last year, during a trial, before he was convicted of trafficking cocaine. Police have since also charged him with the murder of Lewis Moran. Mr Padilla said he had successfully captured fugitives in Lebanon, one of the countries where investigators believe Mokbel may be hiding. "Lebanon is an easy place to find a guy," he said. Mr Padilla said the fact Mokbel's lover, Danielle Maguire, may be travelling with him would make the fugitive easier to track. Mr Padilla said his only worry about joining the chase was that public rewards could often be tough to claim. "It is really darn difficult to collect from a government entity," he said. Mokbel, who was jailed in his absence for 12 years for cocaine smuggling, is being hunted by Australian Federal Police and Interpol. Interpol has circulated photographs of Mokbel to its 184 member countries. This week Victoria Police revealed that Crime Stoppers programs around the world had been mobilised to find the drugs boss. |

Would Chapman's and Padilla's egos fit on the same plane as they would or would space constraints require seperate accomodations? Would someone explain to these guys that they don't have arrest powers, please. |

Well at least Padillia's real enough. He works cases for Scott Hays Bail Bonds and others. I got to meet him once so I will be routeing for him. "They could match up on ppv and call it battle of the bounty Hunters." It would be A and E. vs. the National geographic channel. |

Padilla was around before many in the profession was even born, so know that he knows the profession. I am also more inclined to think that he has the resources and knowledge to do things legally, although he worked more in the day when "bounty hunters" were more accepted. Like Mark, I would expect him to be more successful at making a legal apprehension than the given alternative. |

If he goes to Lebanon he'll be lucky to return in one piece (literally), an American that goes there asking a lot of questions could end up getting some unwanted attention from Hezbollah or Al-Qaida. |

No doubt that times have changed. I am very glad to see that Kevin Heeley is well, though. He is one of us and deserves our thoughts, prayers, and assistance on personal PI and BE issues. So, Kevin if you read this, check in and let us know if you are still on the hunt for your personal nemisis. |

I actually thought that Padilla had retired due to some TV documentary I saw on him. I understood that he had turned the business over to a partner or trainee of his. I guess if the case is serious enough, anyone will jump in to help. |

In my humble opinion this is nothing more than both of them trying to boast up aging reputations and egos. I have met and talked a little to Mr Padilla. He still does work in the trade but I think more as a figure head, than on the streets. As far as doggie goes, as his show wears on, the ratings start to drop. So he needs a adrenline boast and since the extradition thing is quiet for now, they have to keep his name in the news some how. I would love for him to go and try and find Mokbel or Osama. But we all know outside of Hawaii and Colorado he couldn't find a McDonalds without a road map. I have a brand new $100 bill for anyone willing to take a bet. The bet is, neither one of them will actually locate, apprehend and return Mokbel or any other high profile international fugitive. |
