GETS MAX FOR SEX ASSAULTS Used ruse at bail bond office Friday, May 04, 2007 By MICHAELANGELO CONTE - THE JERSEY JOURNAL A convicted felon from Jersey City has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for sexually assaulting women who went to the bail bond office where he worked seeking to bail out loved ones. "It's really hard to get a maximum sentence, but Zoppi really earned it," said Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor John Mulkeen yesterday of Earnest Zoppi, 53, of Newark Avenue, who was sentenced Wednesday. In February 2006, Zoppi was convicted on three counts of criminal sexual contact and one count of sexual assault in connection with his attacks on two women in the bail bond office on Newark Avenue, Mulkeen said. Zoppi was eligible for an extended prison term because of his record, Mulkeen said, adding that Zoppi now has 11 convictions and must serve 11 years of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. Zoppi told a Bayonne woman who went to the bail bond office that the FBI was after him and said he would have to search her for a wire, Mulkeen said. While patting her down he groped her groin and breasts, saying, "This is the best part of the meeting," Mulkeen said. In the second incident a Jersey City woman went to the office for help bailing out her boyfriend and, using the FBI ruse, Zoppi had her take off her clothes, groped her and assaulted her, Mulkeen said. Zoppi is not a licensed bail bondsman, police said, adding that his job was to interview people seeking bail bonds and refer them to various licensed bonds agents. Zoppi was in prison from July 6, 1993 to Nov. 17, 2002 for child abuse, criminal sexual contact, theft and two counts of sexual assault, state corrections officials said. =^..^= GO FIGURE |

I would have to believe that the bonding company that hired him could be held liable for civil damages. What the hell are they thinking? Scott |

I was thinking the same thing....what professional, reputable company, regardless of the industry would even hire a person with that background ? Excluding the construction trades of course. |

I lost something in the translations here. Was he just a "screener" for that bail office? If so, then that company will be out of business pretty soon after the civil law suits bankrupts them. Also, I'm sorry to blame the victims but, how stupid can you be to believe such a crock of crap. What does bailing someone out have to do with his "problems" with the FBI? |

Yak I defer to your knowledge of the area... Could this be a connected guy given a job because someone else might have "suggested" it? I am trying to be delicate here...because that is what it smells like. Scott |
