Post subject:  General Question

I have done some research on PA Laws. My question is this. Pennsylvania as of now has no license requirments for agent recovery "Bounty Hunter". As i stated in my hello post, I am new and starting on my own. I am not new to Law Enforcement. I have served as a CID Agent for the US Military, working in undercover status and fugitive recovery.

I am very professional at what i do, so what creds in our profession should i obtain. I handle all situations in a non lethal manner, I have act 235 if needed.

So let me know what creditionals i should aquire, or any that are reccomended.

Thank you again

Mr. Daniels,

In the FAQ section there are a number of schools listed, both online and classroom you can explore.

The one's most acquired are NIBE, NABEA, Scott Harrell's classes (bondforfeitures.com), and some enjoy Rex Venator's training materials. Now bear in mind most of Rex's stuff is West Coast orientated. Alot of the things he teaches are not usable on the East Coast.

You may also desire to obtain a Pi license as it offers a more professional "air" to what we do and will open more doors for you. Alot of places wont even talk to you without one.

Most of this advice has been posted throuhgout the forum.

Basic steps:

1)Secure all licenses required or desired....Pi, Bodyguard, Security, etc. (more licenses, more revenue generating opportunities).

2) Secure any and all relevant training. Schools/courses mentioned above, local leo training/certifiaction in baton, tazer, chemical agent, firearms, etc.

3) Register a company name with a P.O. box. Have everything sent to the po box address.

4) Obtain and secure COMMERCIAL INSURANCE on any and all vehicles you plan to use in your work. Utilizing a pov for commercial purposes can result in a negation of your personal policies. In some states it could even be labled as fraud.

5) Educate yourself to surrounding states/jurisdictions regarding weapons reciprocity, recovery laws, transportation of weapons across state lines, ccw private permits vs. occupational or work permits, UCEA, badges-usage, displaying, style, size, ID rags, etc.

Just some of the things you need to be made aware of. Even the verbage you use is an issue in some states. Ex: In some states it is illegal to call ourselves "bounty hunter"; "Fugitive Recovery Agent", etc.

Also be aware that there are 4 states we cannot, generally speaking, operate in legally:

Illinois, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Oregon. Now there have been hundreds of discussions on this issue...I'm not going into that here...why I said "generally speaking".

Read, learn, research.

Good luck.
