Post subject:  Politically Correct titles

Hi everyone
What are the PC titles that you use to describe the job e.g

1. Bail Enforcement.
2. Fugitive Recovery Services.
3. Fugitive Enforcemenet Services.

and then what do you call yourselves, are you

1. Bail Enforcement Agents/Officers/Specilists.
2. Fugitive Recovery Agents/Officers/Specilists.
3. Fugitive Enforcement Agents/Officers/Specilists.

No particular reason for wanting to know, just plain curiosity as I have seen a lot of different titles being used.

Thanks
Jeff

There are several articles on this forum addressing this topic.

However, I will reitereate a cliff noted synopsis of the existing articles:

1) Titles are often determined not only by local laws but by federal one's as well. You can find federal law's under the U.S. Code.

2) BEA or FRA are the standard for most of us...again though the verbage of either of these 2 violates some state laws.

3) Some prefer Surety Investigator as it seems to be legal in most states and has no law enforcement implications.

4) Most professionals stay away from self issued monikers such as "SAIC", "AGENT SO AND SO", "CAPT", "LT", "COMMANDER" ETC. These titles are military/Le in origin and people in these fields resent civilians who have done nothing to earn this rank attach to themselves simply to inflate thier own egos. the 1 exception here is if a person is retired Military then under UCMJ they are allowed to continue the usage of thier rank in civillian life.

In Georgia, it is law that states we use the title Bail Recovery Agent (whick makes us BRA's) but there is also written caselaw that states we can not use the wording of Agent, Officer, or Specialist (makes it confusing)..... I use OPERATIVE. Nothing written about that.

In Ohio, the only thiing you can use is as follows:

Bail Agent
Bail Bond Agent
Private Investigator

That's it. You can't use the term Recovery Agent, Bounty Hunter, Fugitive Recovery Agent, Bail Enforcement Agent, etc... All these terms will get you arrested if you come a cross the wrong officer.

Ha!! You kill me..

Here in CT, we stopped at a Starbucks after a capture, and one of the customers actually came up to us in line and said "I only thought you guys existed on TV"...
I also once got "you're that Domino chick"..

I said no, we're real...

Welcome to reality...but in all seriousness, we go by Bail Enforcemt Agent...No title, no fancy stuff...just BEA.
