I saw this on CNN today. App 160,000 civilian tazers have been sold to the public. the latest trend now, according to the newscast are "Tazer in home Parties" instead of "tupperware" parties. The reporter also stated that Tazers are legal in 43 states. They did not list the 7 where they are illegal. |

Thank you. Of course this raises safety issues for us as BEA's. Suppose we go to apprehend a fugitive and we get tazed in the process ?.... Just more to be aware of. |

That kinda sucks. I always wondered why were not allowed to have one in NY. There is an application process for us here in NY to carry a pistol, but none for tazers....only LE can carry one. I would think that they would prefer us to us less than lethal methods........ |

I saw a show on Tasers, also. They were running tests on the effectiveness during different situations. Because the Taser effects the muscles, involuntarily, I had put to much stock in it. I had always said that someone high or POed enough can walk through an ASP strike, OC, and rubber or beanbag round. But not a Taser. I was wrong. They showed two different people that repeatedly fought through the effects of the Taser, pulled the darts out, and continued on their path that were not on any drugs. They also contribute poor health and drug use to EVERY death that ocurred with the use of a Taser. Using ultra sound to watch the heart, the show that a Taser does not change the rythum of the heart or the heart rate. However, when a subject is in poor health and on drugs, their heart rate has risen. Having a Taser deployed, into them, slows the heart rate from 160 - 210 beat per minute down to 50 - 80 beats per minute which in turn causes "heart shock" (no pun, intented) and results in heart attack. They conclude that with out all three factors (drugs, weak heart, and Taser) there would be no death. This was an interesting show, in deed. |
