Post subject: NEED FOR BAIL ENFORCEMENT

Living in Wisconsin, being former Law Enforcement, and seeing what goes on, I strongly believe that our state needs BE. Too many times I've either seen or heard of wanted fugitives going for months or even years without being picked up. Warrants are only discovered when the subjects are pulled over for a traffic violation. Case and point. As of this moment, LE is looking for 38 year old man from our area who is believed to have taken his 17 year old female cousin. She contacted her mom at 8:00 from her job at a grocery store and said she'd be home by 10. She never showed. Apparently, she had been known to stay at this cousins on occasion. When LE went to question the man, they discovered his long rap sheet. Domestics, batteries, felony theft, restraining orders with firearms restrictions, and anger management issues. He still has 3 active warrants dating back to 2006! The only lead they have is her credit card being used in Kilgore, TX yesterday. As I stated previously, LE doesn't go out of their way to crack down on warrants! I understand that budgets don't allow for "task forces" to be started, but they need to do something different! I spent 8 hours or more a day, driving around the county patrolling and waiting for a call. It's not like I didn't have any extra time in the day to enforce warrants! Wisconsin doesn't think that is proper "time management". Maybe if WI had Bail Enforcement, they wouldn't be searching for this teenage girl in TX!!

an alternative solution for you is to "privatize" the warrant issue in your area. Given your past LEO certifications, you could create your own civilian warrant squad.

It's no different than the privatization of our jails and prisons nationwide, courthouse security details, etc. All you have to do is organize yourself into some kind of business entity...LLC, sole, or Incorporation. Put together a business plan, to include business insurance, then pitch the idea to 1 or 2 of your local city council reps, or county commissioners, then have them present it to the rest fo the baord and go from there.

It's basically like the local government opening up a bid/contract for this service, with certain requirements, and you bidding on them. If you can show the local reps that you can save the tax payer's money by bringing in wanted fugitives by collecting the funds directly from the fugitives or any cash siezed during an apprehension is to be used to fund the service, then you could sell the idea. You are offering a service at no cost to the tax payer's....it's a win win situation all the way around.

Much like the privatization of prisoner extradition services.

It's been done before with moderate successes.

Thanks for the idea. I do know quite a few county board members in our area along with most of the LE. I'll definitely think long and hard about the idea. Maybe I can sell it to them. Hell, they have a contract right now with a 56 year old woman and her mother picking up road killed deer at $40 a pop!

Icer,

Who picks up the motorists? :? I remember that half the time when someone hit a deer they also ended up in the ditch or worse.

Tony,

That would be the EMT's or the coroner. We have alot of motorcycle vs. deer accidents. Most of the time the deer winds up in better shape than the driver. A few years ago, I was following a car when suddenly a deer pops out of the ditch. The woman driving swerved but still connected. Then she went into the ditch and struck a power pole. I ran down to help her. She told me how hitting the deer wasn't the worst part. When she hit the deer, her air bag deployed breaking her glasses. That's how she wound up in the ditch! It was the third deer she'd hit in 2 months!!

Geez I miss WI,

My ex' s family had a place in Philips. We would drive up from Milwaukee a couple times a year in the summer, usually at night. I had my share of close encounters of the deer kind. But never had an actual collision with one.

But even worse were the skunks! I would avoid them at all costs, except running into a ditch or tree.

Tony'

The possums are worse! I ride a Harley. At night the possums are all over the place. They're to stupid you get out of the road!! We never used to have many. But umpteen years ago the hay crops were crap, so the farmers had a lot of it shipped up from down south. The DNR said the possums hitched rides up here. Tells you how stupid they really are. A winter in Texas or a winter with 30 below wind chills in Wisconsin!

Just import some of those southern boys to teach you all how to make possum stew. Problem solved!

You have to scald them in hot water first to skin them. Don't believe everyone that tells you they taste like chicken, they don't, they taste like Muskrat.

I've eaten a lot of strange things in my life, but muskrat and possum? I'll take your word for it on possums not tasting like chicken! Oh, what the heck. I just might have to sit down with a possum, muskrat, and chicken to do a taste test!
