She threatened to put me through it a couple times already! Then she would shoot me with my favorite side arm and feed what left over to the wild critters. Geez, shes tough. I screwed uped and got her a Garmin gps for Christmas. She got it programmed already and its good to go. Now I can't hide from her any more. She can track me down anywhere in the country. Mexico and Canada too. Darnit. |

I have used a garmin GPS for almost 2 years now....I love it. Saves so much time and wasted resources. I've had alot of other investigators/BEA's ask me for mine....lol BTW, if any of you need 1, or need to update, some of them will be returned to dpt stores within the following week. Mine originally retailed for around $300...I got it as "2nd hand" from a retailer's returns section for $100..nib, never used. let me know if y'all want one, I'll see what I can do for you. |

I've been wanting a GPS for a while. Any recommendations on which is best, or more importantly, which to avoid? |

The Boss has a Garmin Nuvi 760. Bought it online for around $600. Full retail $750. Hands free Blue Tooth cell calls, music player, etc. Simple to use and program. Gives voice directions so you don't have to look at it while driving. It acquires the sats real quick and still works in some small one story buildings, if you're near the door or a window. Its has the location of local gas, LE, medical and restuarants available. Main thing is it is very accurate and portable. |

Thanks for the info. We have handheld GPS in our Fire Dept. rigs for giving LZ coordinates to the med-evac helicopters in our rural and mountain areas. Those are all Garmin so I was leaning towards them. Any problems with street mapping updates with Garmin? Our response area covers about 200 sq. miles and we are having huge growth. Every few months we're having to update our map books due to new roads being put in to accomodate all the development. And with it being the rainy season we have some roads that are impassable until the water levels drop. |

We just got our Garmin so don't know if there are any updates for them yet. I told the Boss to check into it. I think they are updated by donwloads from tehir website. Anyway will check into it and pass on the info. So far the wife is very happy with it. It even warned her of congested traffic ahead as she was driving yesterday! |

I'm not in their "coverage area" for the traffic updates. Funny, just this week they've been working on updated pages for the map books at the station. Must mean there's new roads again..... |

Tony.. Check on mygarmin.com. If the Boss registered it, you can plug in the USB cable and do the download...I got the CD Map Update 2008 in the mail..never ordered it, just showed up...it's good to do the update every few months as new roads and stuff get put in...besides it added a few neat features... |
