This is another thread that was hacked on 8/22/07 at app. 2335 hrs. According to Dictionary.com: pla·gia·rism –noun 1. the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work. 2. something used and represented in this manner. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Origin: 1615–25; plagiar(y) + -ism] —Related forms pla·gia·rist, noun pla·gia·ris·tic, adjective Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006. Now several people people feel that words, thoughts, or expressions posted on the internet are "free reign". This is not correct, as some of them have found out the hard way in recent days. Any time you quote someone or borrow any expression, words or ideas that are not of your own, a proper citing must be given. For example: When a shopkeeper sets out a fruit or vegetable stand on a sidewalk in front of his stand, does this mean those items are free for the taking ? Simply because they are in a "Public Domain" ? Is not the shopkeeper entitled to fair compensation ? How about the farmer who raised them ? So just like any other inventor, author, sculptor, or artist any poster will protect what is thiers... legally and otherwise. |
