Do any of you fine business persons use a laser fax? If so do you like it and how often do you have to replace the toner cartridge. I have a Up scale brother color fax and it prints very good but the ink cartridges eat my wallet up. I have a efax but it wont do legal doc's as i receive many doc's in legal size. I have a laser printer with dual trays and i think the world of it and have save hundreds of dollars in printing.

I use an HP laser printer for all of my regular printing, and an HP ink-jet all-in-one machine for my fax, scanning, color copying/printing, etc. The laser is definitely more economical, but when I need color copies of DL's etc, the all-in-one is great.

For my laser printer, I can get about 5 times the printed pages that I get from my inkjet, but when considering the cost efficiency of the cost of a color laser printer/copier, it isn't worth the difference.

I originally had a Lexmark "all-in-one" that simply couldn't handle the volume of my printing during tax season, and often not even the few copies that I made. I had ordered an HP "all-in-one" to replace it only a couple of days before the Lexmark totally crashed on me. I had already replaced it as my main printer over a year before, since it was a constant problem when trying to print tax returns. The HP laser works like a champ, no matter how many pages I run through it. The Lexmark had a hardware error that continually lost faxes (because I had to power off and then had to have them resent), and could take me many tries to even get a single copy, let alone that trying to print anything could take hours at doing it one page at a time, over and over to get it all completed. The hardware error was known and accepted, but Lexmark apparently couldn't fix it, and since I had moved and lost my receipt for the extended warranty purchase, Staples claimed they had no record of it. So, I no longer buy anything from them either. If I have problems with, or can't trust a company, I won't deal with them.

So, I think that everyone should have a good fax and color copier, but when it comes to everyday work, the laser is the way to go. I can get about 400-500 pages out of my recycled laser cartridge costing around $60, and maybe 100 from the inkjet costing $30. I had NO luck with recycling the ink jets, so tend to stick with the new "name brand" ones.

Experiment and figure it out for yourself.
