Hey. Just found this message board for fugitive recovery agents. I kept reading and reading and finally wanted to ask a question of my own. I live in the state of California and was interested in becoming a bail recovery agent. I am 18 and am really interested. I know most bail bonds won't hire 18 year olds but I am willing to wait a couple more years. Here are some questions. Please if any body could answer these it would be of great help 1) How many hours is the training to become a bounty hunter in California 2) When I graduate the training school and get my liscense can I start out right away by myself or should I find a mentor to start out with first 3) How do you go about finding or putting together a team for bounty hunting. 4) Are there alot of training schools in California for bail recovery agents. |

Being young myself Im 22 myself and ive done classes. Age in number is nothing. Its how you carry yourself professionaly. Number 1 rule ive learned off of the pros, and i can truly say from personal experience, keep a day job....always have a regular full time job....its hard in the begging of this field and youll need patience until you have more experience for people to feel confortable in taking you serious. As far as classes....dont just do the minimum, take as many classes and training as you can get a hold of. Knowledge is key. This isnt one of those instant successful types of buisness so again i cant emphasis enough, keep a day job. Wish you the best of luck, Rick |

OK, You can look up CA Penal Code 1299. It spells out all the requirements. 1) At least 18 y/o. 2) resident of the sate 3) Complete the following classes: PC 832 level 111 Part 1 40 hours Bail agent pre license class 12 hours BSIS Security guard powers of Arrest class now 8 hours 4) No felony convictions. PC 832 classes are taught @ all police academies, some adult schools and many junior colleges. Check on line for the bail agent classes and security guard classes. There is no LICENSE issued in CA. You must carry your certs of completion. You would be crazy to attempt to make pickups on your own. At least until you know what you are doing and that WILL take years. Finding a "team" is like finding a wife. You will live with them and better be able to trust them. As far as I know there aren't any schools in CA that covers all the requirements under PC 1299. For schools that just focus on bail fugitive recovery training, google it. Finally, if you getting into it because of the tv show or movies, it ain't like that! You better have another source of income because it appears that you are on the bottom of the selection process when it comes to hirinig bfrps. You have no prior LE, military or PI experience. Desire is great but practical experience beats desire anyday! |
