Fugitive Recovery Agent or Not?

How can you verify that someone is really a Fugitive Recovery Agent? He has a badge and a ID.

Not a black n white issue. Most states don't even issue badges for BEA's . Anyone can buy 1 of these badges off of the internet for about $20-$40 depending on how fancy you get with it.

As far as an ID card goes...lol give me a computer, printer, and a digital camera and I can make you out to be anything..legally of course.

Regarding his legal status as a BEA, again it all goes back to your state laws. Some states have licensing requirements, some don't.

If your state does, then all you need to do is to call and verify his status through them. If your state does not, then you can check with local bondspersons, pd's, sheriff's office, jails, etc.

He took my husband to a place of business and had his Picture ID made and took him to the shop that sells the badges, took him to the court house to pick up warrant papers. Oklahoma does not have any specific laws to my knowledge. I am still checking.

I think you guys will have a hard time finding work if all you have is a badge and a ID card. Without knowledge of bail, training and EXPERIENCE, I sure wouldn't use you to work on my skips.

Sorry to be negative but it is too much of a liabillity to hire unknowns and unexperienced BEA's. As it has been stated on this site over and over again, work under a experienced agent for a couple of years and then think about going out on your own. Secondly, spend a lot of time researching the laws in your state and the country.

I definitly understand the negative part from you, that was what we were going to do is start out under someone to show us the ropes, however he just scammed us, thats why I'm on here. To find out what we need to do to get started and hopefully in the meantime i can find this William Thomas Guthrie with A to Z Fugitive Recovery that scammed us. We will not go forward until we know all the laws here in Oklahoma, and have what classes that would benefit us. We already have a bail bondsman that we will be working with after the classes.

Depending on the state, you should be able to verify someone is a "licensed" or "registered" bail recovery/enforcment agent by contacting the relevent agency which licenses and/or registers them. Here in West Virginia, it's the State Police.

Also, ask around other BEAs about the person in question's reputation. If they haven't heard of him/her or give you a bad report, then don't do business with him/her.

One of my biggest concerns would be with going to get warrant information. Serving warrants is LE work. Not BEA.

Did your husband help him apprehend anyone?
