I know that NY requires us to maintain bond records for at least -6- years, BUT, was wondering how long an issued bond is valid for, ie can a court drag out a bond obligation for years?
One of those questions I can't locate an answer for.
Thanks

Absent local statutes that address the issue, as long as they want. Some bond powers limit the time to 1 year and then has to be re-written and premium paid again. In MD, that is not allowed and I have 1 case that has been active sincve 08/2014.

Bill,
So a verdict was entered in the case? If so your bond should have been exonerated.
In CA, the defendant has to post a separate Appeal Bond in order to appeal a conviction. That goes for the surety also if they are appealing a forfeiture ruling.
And, I think the Appeal Bond would have to be in the amount of the judgment entered in the case of appealing a forfeiture.
If we post an appeal bond for a defendant, we also HAVE to charge an annual premium.
