Want to keep your unlimited data plan? Verizon will require you to pay $649 or more for the iPhone 5

Owning a smartphone on Verizon Wireless (VZ) has never been cheap, but it’s about to get a whole lot more expensive for many iPhone owners.
The nation’s No.1 wireless carrier earned made a lot of people happy when it confirmed that FaceTime over cellular connections will be free with all existing smartphone data plans, meaning that users with grandfathered unlimited data plans won’t have to switch to a new shared data plan in order to use FaceTime over cellular. If they hope to use FaceTime while on the go with a new iPhone 5, however, they’re looking at spending $649 or more for their new smartphones.

A Verizon Wireless spokesperson reportedly confirmed to 9to5Mac that in order for subscribers with grandfathered unlimited data plans to keep their plans with the new iPhone 5, they will have to pay full price for the iPhone 5 once it becomes available next week. The carrier’s statement is as follows:

If you are an existing customer and want to keep your Nationwide Usage Based plan, you can keep your plan, purchase the iPhone at the discounted price with a 2 yr customer agreement. If you have a Verizon Wireless unlimited data plan, you can pay full price for your iPhone 5 and keep your unlimited data plan.

AT&T (T), Verizon’s chief rival, confirmed on Wednesday that its subscribers with unlimited data plans will be able to keep their plans and still pay subsidized prices for Apple’s (AAPL) new iPhone.
Only customers who are new to Verizon Wireless will select from Share Everything Plans.

I had an iphone for years until the battery died..and moving to CA..ATT was horrible so I went to Verizon. Got the Droid Razr Maxx...22 hour battery....can't kill it..also have a jetpack and pay $130.00 a month for both...really like it and never had a problem with them...

well I am not going to go that HIGH Tech . . . Got rid of my land line (saved a lil over 60 $) and switched my DSL to U-verse so instead of paying 43 a month + the 60 + taxes I am going to be paying 43 taxes included. Then I am going to get rid of my cell phone but port the # and get Verizon's StraightTalk. Initial outlay will be about 250 (gotta buy the phone as it uses a card) but will then cost less than 50 a month for unlimited talk text and Internet.
Thinking about that Phone you got Sista . . . my sons say that it is a good one. Gonna check that out this week. I will let yall know. Marshall informed me that if you call the 250 # that it does not give you my cell . . . was supposed to do that for 60 days . . . hmmm flippin ATT . . . . most of you already have my cell . . . if not PM me if you need me

Also, the new iPhone does not connect to any old iPhone accessories, if you are going to purchase an iPhone 5 and have the iHome or the dock or any other accessories it will not hook up to them, different connectors. You will have to purchase all new accessories and Apple will be making millions of dollars off of you once again!

Count me with the Android crowd. I'm on my third and loved each of them.
