Signing up with a surety

I'm trying to get the whole process down still, but while looking at my options, I see there are so many surety/ insurance underwriters to choose from. Does anyone have any that you prefer, or advise against using?

My problem is that thanks to my ex, my credit is not that great. I live in an apartment, I have a good steady job, and have worked there for a few years. I only plan on doing this part time for now, but a lot of these applications seem to want a lot of collateral, or spotless credit.
Am I screwed, or am I just not looking at this right? Are there other options? I appreciate your time, thanks.

Thanks for the tip, my credit is not horrible, its checked every year by my employer, and due to the nature of my work (armored transport) they pay attention to that stuff. And since I'm in an apartment, I have nothing but an old truck for collateral...
I'll give her a call and see what the verdict is.

Also try Lexon Surety of Tennessee. They are new and are signing up agents all over.

Thank you. Do you guys use one, or are you signed up with multiple companies? Do they all have different guidelines as to what they'll allow you to write bonds for?

BUF - Build Up Fund account is used to pay off a summary judgement for a forfeited bail bond that you write and were unable to re arrest the defendant before you had to get them back in the jurisdiction of the court.

Suggestion, maybe look at your sig line. Right now the bail bond profession is under pressure from many directions. The public and government sectors already have very negative impressions of us.

They think we are all cowboys, gunslingers or criminals ourselves. The constant postings mentioning weapons, only reinforce some of those perceptions.

In your sig line, you mention your firearms training. I believe too many agents stress their weapon and self defense experience as if that is the most importnat part of the job. It isn't.

Yes being able to protect oneself is very important. But being able to locate the skip in the first place is more so.

Just a suggestion in trying to improve the image of the profession.

I fail to see how me mentioning myself being a firearms instructor brings a gunslinger or cowboy image of myself. I could see it if I said have ccw, gun for hire... All that is supposed to present is that I have an actual recognized certification. I also have letters of reccomendation from current and former police officers and employers stating that I keep cool under pressure, and team value, etc. I would think the negative connotation with the industry would be everyone and their brother calling themselves bounty hunters and going off half cocked, with no training in anything, let alone this field. Maybe if they were invited in a little better, they would stick around and learn.
I've been around here for a while, and have been treated well for he most part. I've also seen many just get belittled and pushed away for little things.

I'm not trying to argue, just showing my point of view. I'm also a certified computer technician, and have a lot of other random training, and ce certs, but they were just because I love training, and take whatever I cam get. I just don't see my Sig line as a negative image of this profession. It's just so people know a little background on me. Not everybody reads the intros after all.
I do really appreciate all I've learned on this forum, and really hope to make it to the NABBI conference.
