The matter of Mr. Chapman speaking at the PBUS convention leads into an area of concern for us all. Pro BEA's nationwide should not sit idle while Mr. Chapman sets the precedent as being the official spokesperson for the bail enforcement industry. After some communication with others throughout the country and with a media friend in New York, I've learned that NBC Dateline would consider hosting a nationally televised forum comprised of professional BEA's who would be allowed to detail their work in opposition to the manner in which Mr. Chapman 'performs'. Do not mistake this with either disrespecting Mr. Chapman or with saying he does things in a wrongful manner. There are verbal directions to get the point across without 'dissing' him in the process. The purpose would be to begin letting the public know there is a vast difference between what they see on a television show to the actual nuts-and-bolts of our work. It would be like planting a seed in hopes that seed will grow into a harvest of truth and facts. To get the ball rolling it has been suggested to let NBC Dateline know that a serious concern exists by BEA's nationwide and that Mr. Chapman is not an example of real bail enforcement agents, that his show is more of a scripted comedy than reality. At least 50 letters from pro BEA's are necessary to seriously attract the attention of Dateline producers. Can this be done? Yes. If everyone gathers together in such a project it will happen. The address and contact person for NBC Dateline is: NBC Dateline Attention: David Corvo 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York, NY 10112-0002 If the scenario develops I have no clue who would best serve as speakers on the forum. Certainly not me because I am too descriptive of the truth and facts and I'm both unable and unwilling to shade topics into gray tones that, to me, camoflague the issue(s). Who is on board for this venture? |

I do believe that you can count us in. I for one am pretty darn tired of all the folks that I run across saying to me ..."Oh neat you're like Dog" I always respond with "Oh, Hell no, I really do the job it's never scripted" Anyways I think that the public at large needs to know (as well as LEs) that there are some of us that are professionals, that give a shit about how the job is done and getting home at the end of the day. |

From the number of views compared to the number of responses it appears not many are interested in the project. Strange, so many complain but when there is a course of action suddenly the 'balls' disappear. My letter is in the mail. I am not one to shirk from what I believe to be a valid course of action. So to those who complain again about Mr. Chapman without wanting to add their name to the opposition, please... go tell it on the mountain. An empty barrel makes the loudest noise. |

I don' t have the years that a lot of you guys have in the private sector version of this field but I will write a letter from a relative "new guy" standpoint as well. Maybe even compare what little I knew of it when I was active LE versus what I have learned in the last couple of years. I forwarded the post to Rod Mitchell as well, I am hoping this can be turned into a rather large event. I also forwarded it to a fellow named Herb Smith who is an active member of the bail association here in Indiana (the same guy who is helping take the ten percent cash bond situation here to court). I am hoping he can use his connections in the Indiana association to get more letters written. Oh yeah, as Bob said, it is the holiday, give us a bit of time to respond before assuming we are not interested LOL. I know I am an internet junkie of sorts (hell I even managed to get online in New Orleans) but this particular post I believe is of some importance and some thought must be placed in the letters written... I'll come up with something in the next few days, hopefully something that doesn't make me sound like a moron LOL. |
