I have decided to try integrating use of the media into my apprehension approach in hopes that it will help generate leads, tomorrow worning I will be on a local radio show to discuss a skip I'm searching for and I'll also be discussing the Bail Enforcement Profession (the media likes the term bounty hunter) maybe I can also generate some goodwill towards BEA's in my AO and dispell some bad myths.

Update:

The radio interview went well, tomorrow the Erie Times News is running a story about my skip, if you want to check it out thursday just click on the link below.

Constable Chuck,

Good luck and have a great time!

I'm confident that you will dispell negative myths and promote the trade.

Rex

ps: Don't forget to make a tape for your records.

I'm not official yet LOL, I don't get sworn in until 09/29, I will then be required to give up my Bondsman License but I don't mind because PA allows State Constables to serve Bail Pieces so I'll just be serving them as a Law Enforcement Officer rather than a Bondsman.

Chuck:

I wish you all the best in your endeavor to dispell some myths about the profession. Publicity surrounding charges brought against BEA's coupled with "Dog: The Bounter Hunter," "Domino" and the porn-star -turned-BEA who appeared on "Good Morning America," the public is getting the impression this craft is inhabitated by circus sideshow rejects.

It certainly would be a delight to see some good press posted on this site for a change. In the meantime, let me know if you need some advice from a journalist on how to deal with a jounalist.

Jay

Is being a contsable going to affect your licensing for your other work? If I was to become a constable here I could not use my Bail Bond License anymore. My PI License would still be Ok though.

Bob

I had to give up my bondsman license when I became a Constable, the duties and authorities of Constables are somewhat different in each state, here in PA we are sworn law enforcement officers that are elected locally but have statewide jurisdiction because one of our primary duties are to serve warrants for the statewide district court system.

Rather than receiving a salary we are paid a State mandated fee for each warrant we serve or other official service we provide to the court or jurisdiction, we are allowed to do certain private work such as serving bail piece warrants on behalf of a bondsman so I'm still able to do fugitive recovery here in PA however as a PA Law Enforcement Officer my ability to do fugitive recovery in other states has become limited since I am subject to the same constitutional / jurisdiction restrictions as any other Law Enforcement Officer.

That is exactly what would happen here, you are a sworn law enforcement elected official. I thought about doing the same and decided not to, you now are restricted as far as how you can enter a home also. TvT goes out the window for you which is one of the reasons I decided against it for myself.

I'm not expecting my new position to impede my ability to do fugitive recovery, Taylor v. Taintor is often disregarded or improperly interpreted by local courts anyway so it's always been my practice to get consent prior to searching a residence, the nice thing is that now I can arrest the friend or family member who gets out of hand by obstructing my investigation or making threats.
